What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Analyst position at Flexfab?
The fundamental role of this position is to assume responsibility for the accuracy of the Flexfab cost accounting systems utilized for both pricing decisions and manufacturing cost standards. Activities will include, but not be limited to:
Developing and maintaining labor & manufacturing burden rates.
Ensuring accuracy of bills of material and labor routings via engagement with engineering and operations teams and execution of routine audit/validation processes that involve both data analysis and observation of manufacturing activities.
Evaluate and maintain accurate manufacturing cost allocations.
Provide cost analysis and support to both Finance and Operations leadership for annual budgeting, business modeling/forecasting activities, and other special projects.
Continuously strive to identify opportunities for improving accuracy and/or efficiency of standard costing systems, including optimizing use of the company’s ERP system to maintain and measure standard costs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Calculate actual burden rates annually from available data and prepare recommendations for changes to standard labor and overhead rates that consider both recent financial results, existing capacities and other information regarding future business expectations that may impact manufacturing burden rates.
Support the Controller in planning and taking the year-end physical inventory, valuation and assist in preparation of audit work papers related to inventory.
Develop and prepare period end reporting & analysis of manufacturing costs/performance versus standard to be used by constituents within the operations, engineering & finance teams, and by senior management.
Analyze and update manufacturing cost allocations as needed and ensure factors used for allocating are based on the most appropriate cost drivers.
Provide insights and observations regarding operating costs that can help drive improvement in the company’s financial performance.
Participate and provide support for lean initiatives for reducing costs, including tracking of results against established targets.
Actively seek relevant educational and training opportunities both internally and externally and apply this knowledge as appropriate.
Provide analytical support to both engineering and sales teams for evaluation of costs to support pricing decisions, especially for significant long-term agreements and opportunities involving new processes.
Develop and execute an internal audit process to ensure accuracy of bills of material, labor routings and efficacy of rates/factors used to allocate manufacturing costs.
Participate in year-end financial audits.
Conduct year-end rollovers of inventory and other financial data maintained in the company’s ERP system.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. MBA, CPA or CMA a plus.
5 or more years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Preferred candidate will have experience leading costing accounting for an organization.
Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in cost accounting.
Understanding of general ledger accounting procedures & GAAP.
Ability to gain and maintain a complete understanding of Flexfab products and processes in order to effectively and accurately measure and evaluate manufacturing costs.
Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with other members of the finance team as well as others at all levels of the organization.
Must thrive in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, experience with ERP systems (Baan LN experience a plus) and familiarity with other Microsoft Office programs.
Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Must demonstrate leadership ability.
Supervision experience is preferred.
Must maintain high ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional and discreet manner.
