Flexible Automation, Inc., a well-established, 38-year-old robotics integrator and machine builder is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Manager. The Mechanical Design Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations specific to the mechanical design of our “engineer to order” custom systems, standard products and robotic integrations. This includes the oversight of the Mechanical Design group specific to job assignment, budget, and scheduling.
Responsibilities vary, but may include:
- Lead a mechanical design team to execute projects on time and within the estimated budgeted hours.
- Coordinate the utilization of design resources within Flexible Automation.
- Provide tactical leadership and guidance to staff including performance management, career development and succession plans.
- Define, review, and approve engineering policies to ensure the priorities, strategies and objectives align with the department and company mission, objectives and goals.
- Responsible to develop and execute resourcing and staffing strategies to ensure delivery of activities and scopes of work from various internal and external groups.
- Provide design oversight and checking of critical assemblies using DFMA principals.
- Create and enforce standards and procedures to ensure proper flow in the department.
- Develop and grow technical competencies in products Flexible Automation plans to standardize.
- Aid in the develop of electrical control panel design and manufacturing for consideration of panel placement/machine interface on mechanical designs.
- Contribute to the pre-sales process by proving project design hour estimates.
- Establish and maintain project schedules for completing mechanical drawing releases to manufacturing.
- Create capacity models.
- Prepare reports regarding engineering activities, schedule, resource needs, budget updates and other pertinent information for senior management.
- Provide process improvement and continuous improvement in the Engineering process flow to allow for consistent and efficient project work to meet customers’ demand.
- Serve as a primary contact for the Project Management, Manufacturing, and Installation teams to ensure design issues are driven to root cause and countermeasures implemented.
- Interface with customers, Manufacturing, Operations, Project Management, and Sales to ensure proper engineering standards are being followed to help with any production or supply chain issues.
- Technical leadership and oversight for the start-up and troubleshooting of some mechanical contract manufacturing builds.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
