FLIPANY-AmeriCorps is seeking two candidates to serve as Child Nutrition & Engagement (CNE) AmeriCorps Members with hybrid placements throughout Miami Dade County where FLIPANY provides nutrition education, physical activity and/or meal service to summer camp programs.
Founded in 2015, FLIPANY is a non-profit organization that provides educational afterschool programs where children and parents alike can learn and partake in healthy lifestyles and are provided healthy meals in order to fight childhood obesity and hunger. Putting into action the adage that “it takes a village to raise a child,” FLIPANY serves meals to more than 300,000 children each year.
As a CNE AmeriCorps Member, candidates will expand and support the Summer Food service Program and Public Health Department as we provide youth grades K - 5 with enrichment activities that incorporate social emotional learning into a curriculum focused on improving awareness of nutritious food, healthy habits, and mentor-structured physical play. Candidates will serve at the Florida City Youth Center where their impact will provide education and targeted wellness activities, including nutrition education, cooking classes, physical activity or soccer utilizing our scripted curriculum, to youth in a group setting. Qualified candidates must be highly motivated, provide superior customer service, understand community led public health programs and able to work with diverse populations while positively promoting FLIPANY and its’ program services.
REQUIREMENTS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:
· Must be 18 years of age or older
· US Citizen or Permanent Resident
· Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
· Able to commit to 32 hours/week from May 30 to August 4
· Able to pass a Background Check as necessary for reoccurring access to vulnerable population
· Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal/organizational skills and ability to multitask
· Act as a role model exhibiting appropriate behavior including civic responsibility, community/relationship building
· Flexible, adaptable, creative, energetic, dependable and a self-starter
· Strong interest in hunger, nutrition, health and wellness
TERMS & BENEFITS:
· Minimum-time AmeriCorps members will serve a total of 300 hours from May 30 to August 4
· Minimum-time members will receive a Living Allowance of $3,000 (from AmeriCorps) broken down into bi-weekly payments and an Education Award of $1,459.26 at the end of the term that can be used for existing student loans or future education expenses such as tuition and books
· No housing allowance or relocation provided
