What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Assistant - Lake City Library - 20HPW position at Florence County Government?
Under regular supervision, may work a variety of shifts at the Computer Services Desk, Circulation Desk, or the branches assisting patrons with the use of public Internet and word processing computers and performing circulation duties. Reports to the Library Director or a designated supervisor.
Answers questions, both in person, and over the phone, regarding library computer services to the public, access to Library catalog and remote Library databases.
Troubleshoot basic hardware and software problems with public Internet computers. Informs IT department of problems that require greater expertise.
Assists with clerical and manual labor tasks related to the Computer Services area.
Performs circulation duties including registering new users, checking in and out materials, renewing items, searching computer database for books and recording book reserve requests, accepting fines and fees, emptying book drops, preparing new library cards, maintaining circulation records, responding to questions and requests for directions or assistance by patrons, explaining library circulation policy and procedures.
Assists patrons in using Library equipment as needed.
Answers the telephone, providing accurate information or forwarding calls to appropriate personnel.
Performs computer data entry to record and retrieve various information.
Shelves book periodicals and newspapers; reads and straightens shelves; moves furniture and equipment as needed.
Assists in maintaining neat and orderly library facilities.
Utilizes a variety of types of office equipment including computer, fax, cash register, laminator, printer, typewriter, copier, etc.
Processes donated materials by color-coding, pocketing, stamping, etc.
Secures branch building or department at end of day.
Performs a variety of administrative duties in order to maintain efficient office operations, included but not limited to typing, copying, filing, processing daily mail, ordering supplies, etc.
Maintains cleanliness and neatness of building, performing such housekeeping duties as vacuuming floors, dusting, removing trash and cleaning restrooms.
Assists in other departments or other branches as necessary.
Works evenings and weekends as required.
Performs related duties as required.
The Florence County Library System may change assigned work location and schedule of any position depending upon the needs of the system.
Preference given to applicants with a two-year degree. Requires a high school diploma supplemented by two to three years of library experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. South Carolina driver’s license required.
