The Organization:
The Florence Project was founded in 1989 to respond to a representation crisis for indigent non-citizens detained at the rural Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Center in Florence, Arizona. Through our programs today, we provide services to thousands of adults, youth, and children detained in Eloy, Florence, Phoenix, and Tucson, Arizona on any given day. In 2001, the Florence Project implemented our Integrated Social Services Program, one of the first of its kind in this field. The Florence Project provides high quality legal and social services and supports initiatives for national changes in immigration law and policy.


Primary Purpose of the Job:

The Mission Engagement Manager is responsible for building strong relationships with donors and facilitating major investments in FIRRP’s mission as well as developing and implementing engagement and fundraising strategies to grow revenue and build relationships with current and prospective donors. The Mission Engagement Manager provides comprehensive assistance to the Director of Philanthropy, and Executive Director. Paramount to this position is the ability to work with a high degree of independence, and execute various engagement strategies a year, while prioritizing donor relationships.  


Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 


Cultivated Giving Program:

 

  • Designs, documents, and implements a Cultivated Giving Program that works in tandem with FIRRP’s Fund Development Plan. 
  • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of around 150 leadership and major donors.  
  • Ensures leadership and major donors are recognized, receiving on-going communications, and cultivated to enhance their relationship with FIRRP.  
  • Has 15-20 meaningful donor interactions per week and 4 donor meetings per month, usually thanking high level donors for their gifts and progressing portfolio moves management 
  • Maintains clear, consistent, ethical donor records by recording all donor actions in Raiser’s Edge within 24 hours of the meeting or interaction. 
  • Works collaboratively with, and in support of, the Executive Director and Director of Philanthropy, volunteers, board, and the Development Team to ensure all members are moving program forward.  
  • Engages in all aspects of the gift cycle: 
  • Initiates contact with potential leadership and major gift donors. 
  • Develops appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and board members, and meeting in person to make solicitations. (Meetings may occur in Tucson, Phoenix, or across the U.S.) 
  • Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure. 
  • Focuses on securing support for FIRRP funding priorities as identified by FIRRP leadership. 
  • Stays abreast of trends in the fields of philanthropy, donor relations, gift advising, and planned giving. 
  • Cultivates a deep understanding and commitment to the needs of immigrants and the day-to-day work of FIRRP staff, as well as an ability to share sensitive stories and accurate information with donors. 
  • Adheres to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; maintains an optimistic and positive attitude and conveys sensitivity to needs of donors. 
  • Ensures online profiles, including Charity Navigator and Candid/Guidestar maintain the highest of ratings.  
  • Assists with final reports for leadership and major donors, as needed based on donor relationship.   
  • Attends internal and external meetings, fairs, and community events. 
  • Builds relationships with existing and prospective law firms. Identifies sponsorship opportunities that align with FIRRP’s mission and works with staff to create engagement initiatives and opportunities.  
  • Conducts prospect research and runs reports as needed using Donor Search, Raiser’s Edge, and other tools 


Mission Engagement Strategies: 

 

  • Oversees and adapts donor engagement strategies that invite, renew, and upgrade donors annually with support of the Mission Engagement Associate. 
  • Oversees 4-6 personalized donor events or conversations via zoom, or in person, to further engage donors with support of the Mission Engagement Associate.  
  • Leads committee that executes the Pro Bono Appreciation event, with substantial support from the Mission Engagement Associate.  
  • Oversees Mission Engagement Associate’s role in planning 4-6 major city visits per year.  
  • Leads annual staff thank-a-thon and FIRRP Alumni Network (FAN) with substantial support from Mission Engagement Associate. 

 

Legacy Giving Program 

  • Manages the legacy giving program and adjusts program as needed.  
  • Manages relationship with FreeWill and promotes relationship, when appropriate, to our supporters.  
  • Develops a Professional Advisors’ Council to help grow legacy giving program.  
  • Identifies potential legacy donors and conducts appropriate cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation. 

 

Other Duties: 

  • Supervises the Mission Engagement Associate and other staff, as required  
  • Provides general clerical support when needed.  
  • Answers general phone or email inquiries when needed 
  • Supports and prepares other staff and volunteers for donor visits. (Director of Philanthropy, Executive Director, Board members, etc.) when needed. 
  • Other duties as required.  

 
 Minimum Requirements: 


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that are effective with a diverse range of audiences including board members, volunteers, internal staff, donors, executives, potential funding partners, etc.   
  • Ability to convey a high degree of commitment and passion for mission of FIRRP. 
  • Understanding of all aspects of the gift cycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, and stewardship of donors.  
  • Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making. 
  • Strength of character, integrity, commitment, and reliability. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  
  • Proven experience effectively managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines. 
  • Ability to develop and implement processes 
  • Ability to track information and report on it succinctly and powerfully.  
  • Adherence to high ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Able to travel to Tucson or Phoenix when required. Must have a valid driver license and reliable transportation. 
  • Proven computer and typing skills.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrate a zealous support of the Florence Project’s mission.

  • Must be able to pass federal and state background checks. 
  • Travel is required for this position. 
  • Able and willing to travel throughout the U.S. at least 4 times per year.  
  • Must have a valid driver license and reliable transportation. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory or management experience. 
  • Project management experience. 
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, or similar database. 
  • Experience in all aspects of the gift cycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, and stewardship of donors.  
  • Experience working with immigration detention issues.  
  • Exceptional understanding of philanthropy as it relates to the not-for-profit organization and a wide and deep knowledge of fundamental disciplines of resource development.  
  • Certified Fundraising Executive Credential (CFRE) 


Working Conditions/Physical Demands: 

  • Operate in a professional office environment and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time with intermittent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling and pushing.  
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as scanners, computers, keyboards, phones, shredders, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.  Requires the ability to liftup to ten pounds.  Accommodations may be available.  
  • Travel regularly between offices, and secondary work locations.

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time position. Salary is competitive for our field and geographical area. Salaries will be calculated based on relevant experience and our established comprehensive wage scale: $82,201.60-$102,909.09 DOE
