TITLE: Austism Consultant
QUALIFICATIONS:
Acceptable certification for Autism: MD or EMD, TMD; ED; Multicategorical; Severe Disabilities.
REPORTS TO:
The Autism Consultant’s immediate supervisor is the Autism Coordinator. If there are concerns related to a specific school or building the building Principal will serve as the supervisor.
PERFOMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- These duties include but are not limited to the following
Work with case manager to ensure student’s needs are met in IEP-
Provide direct and consultative services to individuals served by the Program for Exceptional Children with or without an autism spectrum disorder, across a variety of settings.

Assist teachers in selection, implementation and monitoring of IEP goals & services.

Assist in the development and execution of individual and small group programs to meet the unique needs of students with autism spectrum disorder.

Evaluate the current strategies and interventions for referred students and modify or develop appropriate behavior and/or educational interventions and strategies using information from the IEP, Functional Behavior Assessment, direct observation, school input and other sources.

Provide individual educational and behavioral support to enable identified students to improve academically and behaviorally.

Participate in IEP meetings for identified students as needed.

Implement autism-specific services and supports to allow students to remain in the least restrictive educational setting as appropriate for their educational and behavioral needs.

Provide training, consultation and other support activities to staff working with individuals served by Programs for Exceptional Children across a variety of settings.

Develop and implement professional development activities as assigned.

Assist Autism Coordinator and team members in developing strategies for meeting program objectives and goals for individuals served by Programs for Exceptional Children

Assist in the development and implementation of parent training for individuals served by Programs for Exceptional Children and the community

Participate and assist with initial evaluations, re-evaluations, Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan development for individuals served by Programs for Exceptional Children

Interpret evaluation and assessment data for individual students programs.

Assists coordinator in the collection and completion of required reports about programs and services for students with autism spectrum disorder.

Participate in ongoing continuing education certification programs, seminars, and workshops. Evaluate outside programs, curricula, and training packages for students with autism spectrum disorder.

Collaborate with outside agencies, service providers, and other consultants to improve programming for individuals served by Programs for Exceptional Children.

Maintain client confidentiality & dignity.

Collaborate with treatment team in a professional and courteous manner.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the field by participating in continuing education activities.

Maintain accurate and timely records, including clinical assessments & data collection and services notes.

Report pertinent information to Principals and Autism Coordinator and maintain open communication with your immediate supervisor (Autism Coordinator).

Participate in meetings with team to assist in planning and implementing quality improvement activities and to provide feedback regarding program development and treatment.

BASIC & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to travel throughout the day to other educational locations.

Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan in the course of working with children with challenging behavior. *The use of restraint should only be used by individuals with up-to-date training in crisis management and only as indicated in the learner’s Behavior Intervention Plan.

Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.

Must be physically present at the assigned job location, which may include different school and community placements.

Must be able to receive detailed information through oral & written communication.

Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.

Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites.
