Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director, Academic Support for Science & Engineering - Boca Raton, FL.
The Assistant Director, Academic Support for Science & Engineering within the Center for Learning And Student Success (CLASS) is responsible for the development and direction of one or more academic service functions – specifically oversight of the Science Learning Center located in the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence and the Organic Chemistry Center (OC2). Through a nationally accredited selection and training program, the Assistant Director will spearhead the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification initiatives – working with the Associate Director and Associate Dean on proper certification requirements and renewals.
The Assistant Director will work closely with the Associate Director on recruiting, selecting, training, evaluating and supervising Science & Engineering tutors and SI Leaders each semester at FAU. Serving as a student advocate, the Assistant Director will help ensure that high risk/historically difficult courses and students who are identified as “at-risk” are supported through tutoring and various academic support initiatives.
The Assistant Director will market academic support initiatives and collect all data related to utilization of academic support programs and help analyze outcomes related to student performance in courses as it relates to participation in academic support programs, assisting with the assessment and continual improvement of academic support programs through both quantitative and qualitative data. The Assistant Director will assist in the preparation of relevant reports to be regularly submitted to the Associate Dean.
The Assistant Director must abide by University, state and federal statutes - including FERPA and confidentiality of records and will help formulate policies regarding the program policies within established guidelines.
The Assistant Director may perform some clerical functions as needed, including scheduling room space for academic support and maintaining related tutoring databases and other duties as assigned to maintain or advance programs within CLASS.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.At least two years of experience working with diverse populations of students in educational settings preferred.
