MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
A high school diploma or its equivalent and one ( 1 ) year of experience in forestry or a related field : or
A one ( 1 ) year certificate in Forestry with coursework in both Dendrology and Natural Resource Sampling; or
An associate’s degree in Forestry or related field with coursework in both Dendrology and Natural Resource Sampling.
NOTE : ALL POSITIONS WITHIN THIS CLASS REQUIRE POSSESSION OF A VALID DRIVER LICENSE.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.
JOB DUTIES :
Responsible for cruising timber for sales and inventory as directed verbally or in writing. Cruising includes plot sampling, timber marking or other methods approved by the Florida Forest Service (FFS).
Maintain all records and documentation associated with data collection. Perform normal work associated with forest technician responsibilities including assisting foresters with the analysis of volume measurements using a computer and data recorder.
Inspect and monitor logging operations to ensure compliance by contractors. Perform site preparation and tree seedling planting or natural regeneration inspections and monitoring to ensure compliance by contractors, as appropriate.
Perform state forest boundary maintenance. Assist forester with miscellaneous field data collection.
Maintain assigned equipment such as vehicles, marking guns and technical forestry equipment.
Perform other related work as assigned.
