What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Technician position at Florida Memorial University?
A successful candidate will perform network administration & planning for all aspects of IT-network infrastructure - including network equipment, servers, switches, and software applications. An IT Technician shall have the primary responsibilities to diagnose, repair, and maintain hardware and software components to ensure the smooth running of IT infrastructure and systems. This student-centric role is responsible to deliver service excellence support to meet the needs of our University community. Communicate with faculty and staff and translate the institution's needs into operational procedures and systems.
Essential Duties:
This position requires the ability to function successfully in both team and independent work environments. Provide emergency 24 x 7 on-call support on a rotating basis. Provide support for desktops and other information technology equipment.
- Wi-Fi equipment monitoring and troubleshooting

- Audiovisual support: sets up, tests, operates, assesses, and repairs equipment required for live events.
- Troubleshoot, document, and resolve assigned support tickets in an appropriate time frame. Resolve end-user computer-related issues via telephone, email, in person, or remotely.
- Provide support and resolution of various computer hardware and software issues to include e-mail accounts, Jenzabar accounts, and telephone systems.
- Responds to inquiries in a professional, helpful manner and directs visitors as appropriate.
- Coordinate work requests to be completed by IMT technicians on a case-by-case basis for university faculty, staff, and students.
- Assists in maintaining IT web pages on the college website.
- Technology best practices; general office maintenance and practices; filing systems, word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet applications, specifically Microsoft Office applications, SIS (Jenzabar).
- Analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills; highly organized and able to lead effective meetings.
- Exposure to new systems: Jenzabar, other accounts, and telephone systems.
- The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of current technology best practices; general office maintenance and practices; filing systems, word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet applications, specifically Microsoft Office applications, SIS. This includes cloud infrastructure, website (internet/intranet) servers administration, SQL or related databases, and APIs.
- Ability to handle information that’s sensitive and confidential in nature in the utmost professional manner.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.

- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master's degree preferred), in Networking, Computer Science, Information Technology. Three plus years of progressive management experience, or related work experience (relevant experience - field preferred – and education may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Familiarity with programming languages API, database standards and end-user
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
