What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer I position at Fluidra North America?
Fluidra is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join the team at our specialty products facility in Salt Lake City, UT.
WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Initially responsibilities will include drafting for existing product line along with performing and documenting tests for new product validation. As familiarity with product line increases, responsibilities will expand to include use of engineering background to find practical, cost-effective solutions to sustaining engineering challenges. Assist engineering team in coming out with innovative ideas during product development. Maintain accurate records of all activities and experiments performed, while working with management to establishing reasonable timelines for completion of assigned tasks. Additionally, you will:
- Learn drafting techniques and standards to accurately communicate design intent on drawings.
- Use proficiency in solid modeling and understanding of the limitations of utilized manufacturing processes, to create drawings with correct dimensions and tolerances.
- Set up and conduct various tests as specified by the Project Engineers or as needed to evaluate root cause of sustaining product issues.
- Interpret and apply test methods from test plans, qualification specifications, and compliance standards.
- Analyze data generated from experiments, report results of experiments and advise of the product development implications arising from the results.
- Maintain the engineering labs including parts inventory, data acquisition equipment, and various lab grade instruments and their calibration.
- During formulation of scope for new product, provide feedback and new ideas to push innovative yet practical solutions.
- Ensure that all installation and technical manuals are developed/updated as part of projects.
- Ensure that all illustrations are accurate and available by initial product availability date.
- Participate in weekly project meetings to report status of assigned tasks and to ensure objectives are being met.
- Coordinate parts/items setup in Navision thru BOM Coordinator and assure completeness of parts related to project.
- Push through necessary documentation to instigate corrective action when issues are encountered, within the existing product line, that require part, documentation, or procedural refinement.
WHAT WE SEEK
- Willingness to become familiar with ramifications of various manufacturing processes (CNC milled, injection molded, cast metal, sheet metal and extruded).
- Proficient with Solid Modeling software and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of electronic components, motors, electrical hardware, housings and assemblies.
- Positive personality and excellent ability to communicate ideas and to work with others.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electro-mechanical design.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), CAD software experience
- Prefer experience working with the following programs: Microsoft Dynamics NAV, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, Aras or other PLM software.

- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering
