The Role: Flutterwave is seeking a seasoned Legal Manager (Legal Counsel) in MENA to support the company in navigating the complex regulatory landscape of the financial technology industry. The Legal Manager will be responsible for providing legal guidance, addressing various legal issues that arise in the course of the company's operations and support to ensure that the company's operations comply with relevant laws and regulations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support high-impact business groups, anticipating and addressing highly complex legal and business issues;
- Serve as a key strategic partner and advisor to business clients;
- Participate in strategic planning and transactions, and develop and execute the required negotiation strategies;
- Creatively solve problems and coordinate across the required legal and business functions;
- Utilize outside counsel effectively and guide escalations to appropriate senior leaders in order to take smart risks;
- Stay informed of rules, regulations, and other statutory requirements relating to our business and advise clients accordingly;
- Communicate in a manner that advances projects, creates clarity, utilizes insights, and closes open issues; and
- Support the business teams in ensuring legal compliance and in providing solutions to mitigate risks.
Required competency and skill set to be a waver:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Individual contributor with leading law firm and/or in-house experience.
- Law degree from a reputable university and an active license to practice law in at least one market in your region.
- 8 years of experience as a practicing attorney in a relevant specialized practice area (tech, fintech, financial services).
- A minimum of 2 years of in-house counsel experience preferred.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with technology concepts, technologies and related legal issues;
- Excellent negotiation, legal drafting, and communications skills;
- Sound judgment that incorporates legal analysis, a pragmatic approach, and consideration for business goals and risk tolerance, and stakeholder priorities;
- Understanding of a service-oriented and customer obsessed approach to providing legal support;
- Enthusiastic “team player” who enjoys partnering with cross functional teams to solve complex issues, invests in others, and works collaboratively to generate consensus across diverse points of view;
- Comfort with ambiguity and with a bias for action in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment;
- Agility and openness to adapting practice in response to evolving business strategies and transformation; and
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in the face of competing priorities.
