Overview
FMI is a consulting and investment banking firm dedicated to serving companies working within the built environment. FMI’s accounting team is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its growing team and support the company's continued growth and success. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills and will be responsible for processing payroll along with other minor accounting duties. This position reports to the Accounting Manager and will have no management responsibilities.
This hybrid, full-time opportunity will be based in our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Responsibilities
- Process payroll in compliance with federal and state regulations to ensure accurate and timely payment to approximately 200 employees in various states
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries
- Collaborate with HR to maintain accurate employee payroll records
- Setup new hire in payroll system and complete I-9 verification
- Works closely with Benefits Coordinator to understand how benefit changes impact payroll deductions
- Reconcile benefit carrier invoices and completes departmental cost allocations
- Calculate employer 401K, HSA and FSA contributions based on eligibility requirements, maintains accurate spreadsheets and communicates funding details to vendors
- Assist with various payroll and benefit audits
- Respond to employment verification requests and unemployment claims
- Complete other minor accounting and reporting duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years of payroll experience with multi-state, multi-entity payroll
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, accounting, or related field
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus
- Knowledge of BambooHR & Proliant Ready-Pay are a plus
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
