POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Manager is responsible for management and continuous improvement the Quality System to meet customer requirements. This position acts as a technical resource for Sales, Purchasing, and Manufacturing as well as the primary technical contact for Quality and Metallurgical issues for both customers and suppliers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as applicable.
- People Management – destructive and non-destructive testing functions, dimensional measurement functions, quality system functions
- Responsible for the management and improvement of the FOMAS, Inc. Quality Management System.
- Provide guidance regarding QMS compliance, material property or processing techniques, and compliance to industry or customer specifications.
- Respond to customer needs relating to Quality and Metallurgical issues.
- Continually analyze and report the State of Quality and develop corrective actions as required in order to make improvements.
- Develop, implement and coordinate quality assurance and quality control programs to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products. (Continuous Improvement of Product)
- Formulate and maintain quality control objectives and coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other managers to maximize quality, reliability and to minimize costs (KPIs)
- Communicate performance deficiencies relating to customer’s measurements or perceptions of FOMAS (Customer interaction/communication)
- Help develop processes for new customers and materials. (Product Development/Trials)
- Participate in internal education and continuous improvement efforts (Training/Leading)
- Continually update the knowledgebase of FOMAS employees in the area of Quality, Metallurgy, Heat Treatment and customer requirements. (Training/Leading)
- Oversee the development and analysis of statistical data and specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy. (Data Collection and Analysis)
- Establish and monitor Annual budget for Quality Functions at FOMAS. This included destructive and non-destructive testing, calibration, gauging, certifications and any other general expenses associated with Quality maintenance and improvement at FOMAS.
- Monitor open CAR’s and Internal Audits for on time completion and verify that adequate Quality support personnel are available to the customers and process owners to ensure on-time completion.
- Develop and issue written procedures and instructions related to quality assurance and quality control. Review and update procedures and instructions on a periodic basis.
- Look for areas where FOMAS can improve safety, quality, profitability or competitiveness and present them to Managing Director and/or Management Team.
- Follow all plant rules and procedures within the department to ensure safe operating practices in order to prevent employee injury and/or equipment failure. Report safety problems/concerns to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager.
- Adhere to company-wide housekeeping standards in personal area and within department.
Held Accountable for:
- Ensuring that Procedures and Work Instructions are accurate and represent best practice for meeting customer requirements while considering cost and delivery are followed as required in order to achieve Quality targets.
- Ensuring that orders are produced to Customer specifications and shipped on schedule.
- Ensuring that FOMAS passes all Regulatory and Customer quality audits as required.
- Ensuring that Heat Treatment cycles are both efficient and effective, and are being correctly implemented.
- Ensuring that corrective actions to customer complaints are completed to avoid repeat complaints for the same issue.
- Ensuring that all customer complaints are resolved to customer’s satisfaction using appropriate analytical tools (probably 3DE, 8D or equivalent). Most issues should be closed within 7 days of date complaint was reported.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does possess supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university and eight years quality management experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of quality system standards such as ISO 9001, TS 16949, AS9100C Experience directing both internal and supplier audits is strongly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, presentations, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail, internet programs, and the FOMAS’ ERP/reporting systems.
