The buyer is responsible for acquiring all the assigned raw and component materials for production as well as ensuring that those materials are of high quality and are acquired within set parameters at a competitive price.
- Place purchase orders with suppliers for the procurement of material as required by forecast and the production schedule
- Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of future potential problems
- Expedite or defer orders as required based on schedule changes
- Assist Director Supply Chain to determine and establish optimal inventory levels based on forecast, demand variation and material lead times
- Manage and resolve issues regarding PO to invoice discrepancies, returns and quality problems with suppliers
- Manages day-to-day vendor performance and fulfillment. Evaluates and monitors contracts to ensure that vendors and suppliers comply with expectations, contract terms and the conditions of the contracts and to determine the need for changes. Clearly communicates expectations to suppliers and monitors compliance with contracts to ensure compliance.
- Communicate delivery issues to the team and help determine any effects on production.
- Ensures all POs have been acknowledged by Supplier along with reviewing and advising team of any pricing or delivery discrepancies.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or supply chain management or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of purchasing experience preferably within a manufacturing ERP driven environment.
- Negotiation experience
- Solid working knowledge of supply management, production and inventory control methods and procedures.
- Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite and MRP software.
- Strong sense of urgency & attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with multiple internal teams, external vendors/suppliers and various levels of employees.
- Able to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks and achieve set targets
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to work well with teams.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Shows moral courage, openness and honesty in all dealings
