Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the distribution facility’s Operations Manager and/or General Manager, our Transportation Manager is expected to be able to operate our delivery process of shipping out products through delivery to our retail customers. The main emphasis and priority for our Transportation Managers are the ability to work with, train, and lead our driver team (CDL Drivers, Driver Helpers, Yard Jockeys, etc.). Strong positive-culture-building is critical to our operations and retention of good employees on our Driver Team as well. Overall, the need for our Transportation Manager primarily lies in the ability to develop the culture mentioned above and develop our employees to be the best versions of themselves in their daily job functions.
Duties include:
· Managing the overall deliveries of the Distribution Center’s Transportation Department from a staffing and assignment level with all routes.
· Communicating staff needs, needs within the operations, and overall staff progression of current drivers with the Operations Manager and/or General Manager.
· Occasionally supervising and verifying trailer loads to make sure that all product is being loaded and secured correctly on routes. (Communicate when you see needs for change or improvement to the Operations Manager)
· Coordinates work assignments (Who needs to be on “Y” Route to get “X” done?), monitors performance (Working with your drivers at times – “Getting in the trenches”) and provides training on job duties, company policies, and procedures are being done correctly.
· Evaluates all aspects of employee performance and provide coaching or discipline as needed (Annual reviews best format).
· Conducting monthly or quarterly Driver Meetings to discuss a range of topics (providing a list of all drivers that qualify for their safety bonuses on a quarterly basis).
· Participates in interviewing candidates for related positions.
· Helping with or directly managing the Driver Qualification Files for J.J. Keller’s software (depending on warehouse need for this responsibility)
· Extensive knowledge and understanding of our Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Software, Geotab, including operation of hand help devices, proof of delivery service, and communicating equipment needs when devices are lost or broken.
· Makes sure all safety practices are adhered to.
· All other duties and projects as assigned.
Skills & Attributes
· Supervision of multiple CDL Driver employees
· Demonstrated ability to comprehend and communicate
· Ability to manage one’s own time without direct supervision and to manage multiple priorities
· Personable and patient to be able to interact, support, and train staff
· Reasonable Computer skills including AS400 systems, Excel, and Transportation Software (Geotab)
· Be a self-starter and take initiative, such as implementing more efficient processes
Experience and Education:
· Minimum 3-5 years of transportation experience
· Minimum 3-5 years of leadership or management experience
· Reasonable Suspicion training and certification
· DOT law and regulation familiarity and knowledge
