Bat Research Technician

Summary:
Provides assistance to the Natural Resources Department with the collection and analysis of data on regional bat populations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists project staff in conducting bat surveys utilizing acoustic detectors, vegetation surveys, and some emergence surveys utilizing thermal handheld cameras.
- Collects, organizes, and summarizes data and information from acoustic detectors, emergence surveys, and vegetation surveys. Sonobat software will be the primary method for vetting bat calls.
- Builds bat houses and assists as secondary project manager of FCPC’s bat house program.
- Provides community outreach and conducts public bat house building classes.
- Maintains and repairs survey equipment as needed, and reports equipment gear and supplies needs.
- Observes safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- A minimum of two years postsecondary education and/or work experience in natural resources, ecology, wildlife biology or a related field required.
- Must be 21 years of age upon hire and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
- Experience analyzing bat calls, vegetation surveys, and knowledge of local plant species preferred.
- Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
- Must be willing to work some nights and possibly some weekends to meet survey needs.
