Natural Resource Specialist

This position is located on the Gila National Forest located in Silver City, NM.

The primary purpose of the position is to serve as the Integrated Resources staff assistant to the District Ranger with responsibilities for planning/development, programming, implementation and administration.

Basic Requirement:
GS-0401:
Degree: in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-11: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level. Examples of specialized experience include: Participated in developing and administering a broad-based natural resources program; conducted long/short term studies and investigations on the use of soils, water, vegetation, fisheries, wildlife, and other natural resources as part of the land management and natural resources program; coordinated surveys, analyzed biological data, and analyzed a variety of data associated with environmental studies; assisted in planning, administering, and evaluating various natural resources and environmental protection programs to ensure proper consideration is given to resource conservation and protection measures.
OR
Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled);
OR
an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

Salary : $69,107 - $89,835
