What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Specialist position at Forest Service?

This position serves as a program specialist for the Cooperative Fire Branch in the FS Washington Office, Fire & Aviation Management. It is responsible for a variety of related programs, with an emphasis on the Reverse 911 program & assist with other programs such as the State Fire Assistance/Capacity, Volunteer Fire Assistance/Capacity, & the Community Wildfire Defense Grant.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

GS-13: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as a majority of the following: Coordinating a wide variety of communications and responses with internal program officials to support business goals; Initiate and prepare and/or coordinate responses to sensitive and complex inquiries in support of a unit; developing long- and short-range plans to include programming, budgeting, integrating, and evaluating complex programs for the agency; initiating and leading high priority special projects, studies, and initiatives encompassing difficult and diverse functions or issues that affected critical aspects of major agency programs; recommending the revision of programs and procedures to facilitate operations in the face of technical or administrative obstacles.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Salary : $98,496 - $128,043
