The Youth Coach works under the direction of the Director of Youth Development to ensure the successful transition of high school students to the world of work or post-secondary education. Ensures that barriers to accessing job opportunities or post-secondary education programs are removed to allow for the optimal participation. Engages youth in goal-setting and assists with connections to other community supports.
Responsibilities
Minimum of two years of experience working with children or youth is required. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a social-services or education related field preferred but not required.
Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive prevention and intervention referrals for participants in their respective programs.
- Provide one-on-one coaching around participant goals and address challenges that arise.
- Provide weekly group programming four days a week.
- Establish appropriate, professional, and supportive relationships with participants.
- Document participant files consistently, completing all relevant forms, including onboarding, assessments, and all required documents within specified guidelines.
- Develop positive, working relationships with faculty, staff, parents and community partners involved in students’ success.
- Consistently monitor quarterly grade reports, attendance and behavioral issues of participating students still in high school
- Actively recruit eligible participants and promote the program within the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards as outlined in ForKids Customer CARE Manual.
- Use agency resources (financial and non-financial) prudently.
- Acknowledge and follow financial policies of the agency.
- Accurately complete all required data reporting in accordance with established guidelines.
- Participate in all scheduled data collection trainings.
- Participate in development and fundraising activities as needed and requested (ex: meeting with donors, providing tours, attending fundraising events).

- Basic knowledge of principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature of strengths-based and participant driven program models.
- Basic knowledge of principles of community organizing, service coordination, and advocacy to initiate/coordinate service delivery and follow-up services.
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to correctly assess situations within scope of responsibility and to make sound judgments within existing laws, policies and regulations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, children, co-workers and with representatives of other agencies and programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of the use of personal computers and standard office software.
- Valid driver’s license with no more than three minor driving violations and/or accidents combined within the last three years, and no major moving violations in the past five years.
- Ability to drive agency vehicles up to a 15-passenger van.
