Position: Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Director of Facilities

BUILDING MAINTENANCE - The primary function of the maintenance technician is to ensure that all buildings' structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are in good working order. Special attention should be given to dormitories and life/safety issues, and they will be given first priority. All tasks will be completed safely, efficiently, professionally, and timely.
Principal Duties
Responsible for being aware of any developing building/grounds issues and bringing them to the attention of the Director of Facilities or Director of Operations.

Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs or projects as assigned.

Perform major maintenance projects as directed by the Director of Facilities or Director of Operations.

Participate in Saturday work rotation (approximately once per month) Move furnishings, set up for school functions.

Painting, including preparation.

Work with the house parents and housekeepers to ensure that repairs are completed in a mutually convenient manner and time.

Complete daily worksheets/reports.

Snow removal (shoveling and/or use of snow removal equipment).

Maintain an acceptable standard of personal hygiene and comply with the department dress code.

Attends in-service training and education sessions as scheduled

During emergencies or natural disasters, may be required to report to duty as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Director of Operations.
Additional Functions
Any other tasks as assigned by the Director of Facilities or Director of Operations.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each principal duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, write routine reports, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Ability to speak effectively with faculty, staff, students, and parents

One-year certificate from a vocational or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Must have a valid current driver’s license. Must have a cell phone and hand tools.

Must be able to use all common hand and power tools and be comfortable climbing ladders Must be able to pass a Background Check
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time; may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow); ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds frequently and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; ability to walk 90% of the work day; ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, stretch, bend and smell; specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus; exposure to a variety of chemicals and dust.
