Position Summary:

In this entry-level position as a machine operator/Extrusion Technician, you will learn the basics of producing extruded plastic profiles, how to set-up and operate equipment, and take measurements to make quality parts to meet customer specifications. Once the fundamentals are learned, you can grow and develop into technician positions and operate a forklift. Technicians are primarily responsible for production including start-up, changeovers, shutdown, and preventive maintenance.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

A. Assist in setup, start up, tear down and continuous operation of production lines.

B. Responsible for keeping the hoppers full of proper materials.

C. Perform continuous quality checks by visual examination and using measuring devices to ensure quality parts are extruded to customer specifications. Identify problems and refer to Senior Technician. Learn to make basic quality adjustments.

D. Complete quality and order paperwork as directed.

E. Assist in packaging parts; Make boxes and skids.

F. Perform basic housekeeping duties to ensure a safe working environment and maintain a clean work area.

G. Follow all safety rules and report any safety hazards.

H. Serve as a member of the Production team, helping as needed.

I. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Skills, Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience: Plastic processing experience a plus, but not required
  • Able to speak, read, write and understand English and math
  • Perform basic math calculations, and read calipers and a tape measure
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to use hand tools
  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills to work efficiently within a team environment

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions:

  • Available to work an 8-hour shift (1st shift, 2nd shift or 3rd shift). Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required.
  • Able to work in a manufacturing environment with dust, moderate noise, and seasonal temperatures. May be exposed to other hazards and must take proper precautions, including using PPE, to ensure safety of self and others.
  • Prolonged standing and walking on concrete floors during the duration of a shift, along with frequent bending, reaching, squatting. Repetitive use of wrist, hands and fingers.
  • Must be able to lift and/or push up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis; Assist co-workers with heavier loads up to 200 lbs.
