Job Overview
The Teacher Special Education Dyslexia will provide instruction to students served with special education services, specifically students who have dyslexia and other related learning difficulties, using a variety of teaching techniques, materials, and equipment. Dyslexia/Dysgraphia instruction is designed to support students with varied disabilities who require instructional support and/or direct instruction, as mandated by IDEA and/or the Texas Dyslexia Law.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities, required unless otherwise stated as preferred. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Bachelor's degree
Master's degree preferred
Valid Special Education Certification
Valid Texas Reading Specialist Certification preferred
Valid Texas ESL Certification preferred
CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist) or CALP (Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency) preferred
Minimum of 3 years teaching in SPED or General Ed English/Language Arts or Reading
Minimum Of 1 Year Of Dyslexia Instruction Preferred
Licensed Dyslexia Therapist preferred
Leadership ability and experience in providing staff development to campus personnel
Knowledge and experience working with students who have dyslexia or reading difficulties
Completion of or taking Reading Academies
Thorough understanding of reading research, dyslexia, and strategies
Specific training in teaching dyslexic students, and administering and interpreting diagnostic tests preferred
Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
Ability to share expertise with peers
