General Job Description: To assist in the District’s assistive technology program in order to provide an appropriate education for designated students.
Reports to: Director of Psychological & Related Services
Qualifications:
• A valid certificate with the South Carolina Department of Education and/or valid license with the South Carolina Labor and Licensing Regulations board to practice as a Special Education Teacher or Related Service Provider, with a minimum of 5 years of experience serving the special education population
• Master’s Degree Preferred
• High moral and ethical standards
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills
• Effective presentation and communication skills
• Experience working with assistive technology tools, programs, and equipment
• Belief in and respect for the dignity and work of each individual; sincere interest in children and youth
Essential Job Functions:
• Be a leader among the Assistive Technology (AT) team and across other stakeholder groups.
• Provide consultation and support to staff regarding AT processes
• Manage referral process, to include receiving, reviewing, and documenting all AT/AAC referrals
• Delegate consultation assignments, as warranted, to those on the AT team who are specialists in the area being referred; Contact the referring team to schedule observations and consult for AT/AAC concerns
• Serve as IEP team participant, as warranted, for students who have been identified as designated users of Assistive Technology, and students who have been referred, or are being considered for referral, for AT/AAC services
• Schedule, plan, and lead quarterly AT team meetings
• Create and maintain AT lending library
• Stay current on latest AT technology and applications
• Organize and lead trainings for district staff, students, and parents throughout the school year
• Distribute devices and provide training at the beginning of each year for designated users and their teams
• Provide resources for district staff, students, and parents
• Assist in making purchase recommendations for AT materials, devices, and programs for student use and trial purposes
• Distribute devices and provide training at the beginning of each year for designated users; continue ongoing distribution/training throughout the school year, as students are identified.
• Coordinate and provide follow-up training and support for AT users and teams
• Organize and develop print and video resources for all staff referencing AT equipment
• Work with Special Education leadership to identify continuing education needs and program needs
• Distribute devices and manage applications/programs for Special Services staff
• Manage equipment repair, replacement, and lending
• Manage and assign staff and student subscriptions to Special Services accounts (e.g. Bookshare, Google Read & Write, etc.)
• Manage classroom AT kits
• Assist Director of Psychological & Related Services to serve as liaison to/contact for: Fort Mill School District Technology Department, SC Department of Education, SC Assistive Technology Program, AbleNet, Tobii Dynavox, and other AT agencies.
Terms of Employment: 200 day contract. Salary determined by placement on District’s Occupational Therapist/Physical Therapist/Speech Language Pathologist salary schedule
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel
