OVERVIEW
The Shop Technician provides prototyping support for Fortress Building Products’ Innovation & Engineering team. This role is responsible for prototyping, beta product installations, and tradeshow display builds. The Model Maker / Prototype Builder will report to the Director, Innovation & Engineering and be based out of our office in Garland, TX.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Produce functional prototypes and models for new product development.
- Beta product installations for new product lines.
- Perform incoming new product inspection.
- Provide support in the design and build of tradeshow displays.
- Support in-house testing.
- Maintain Area 88 and Innovations tools. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Support the Innovation & Engineering team by troubleshooting and resolving problems and helping with special projects.

Education/Experience/Additional Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience with wood, metal, and plastic fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Organizational skills and strong ability to pay close attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to establish priorities and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision
- Previous experience with or ability to learn Wrike
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to accept and integrate constructive feedback
- Requires ability to be self-motivated and work independently as well as in teams
- Ability to travel as needed

This job operates in a warehouse and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard prototyping tools and office equipment. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required personal protective equipment including steel toe shoes, hearing protection, etc.
