What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager position at FORVIS?
This role will assist in leading the sales tax compliance function for our State and Local Tax team. The position will include managing staff in various locations as well as ensuring the day-to-day aspects of compliance are completed in a timely and efficient manner. The role will also serve as a main point of contact for client experience
How will you contribute:
- Manage the day-to-day function of compliance, including processing, preparing returns, reviewing returns, efiling, confirmation of efiling, and ensuring all deadlines are met
- Review compliance process and return preparation and provide review notes back to staff
- Serve as the main point of contact for assigned compliance clients
- Contribute to the development and growth of the sales tax compliance practice
- Lead, motivate, and mentor the team of compliance professionals
- Establish and maintain strong positive relationships with clients as their trusted advisor for any sales tax compliance issues
- Oversee billing function for compliance engagements
- Oversee the current compliance client automation process and transition of current compliance clients to a payment processing firm
- Evaluate the effectiveness of clients' business processes related to sales and use tax data
- Monitor business and law changes for potential impacts to our compliance clients
- Make reasonable taxability decisions and determinations based on research, industry trends, and changing tax laws that may impact customers, vendors, and tax jurisdictions
- Must be willing to work HYBRID
We are looking for people who have Forward Vision and:
- Proven leadership and project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients
- Ability to work cross-functionally and influence/lead change
- Excellent analytical and technical skills
- Experience with sales tax return preparation software and tax calculation software, such as Avalara, and Vertex
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years or more of public accounting or equivalent industry experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Accounting/Finance preferred
- CPA/CMI or eligible to sit for CPA or CMI examination preferred
