EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION

Guest Server

Reports To: Front of House Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY: A guest server takes orders, answers questions about the menu and food, sells food and drinks, takes payment, communicates orders with the kitchen staff, seats customers, and helps with customer service and cleaning. The guest server must be knowledgeable of both the food menu, the bar drink menu, and the craft beer selections. In addition, the guest server may be utilized in the event room for special functions.

To be successful in this role, you must display a positive attitude with a smile and be focused on delivering a top level entertainment experience for each guest.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet guests promptly and warmly upon arrival.
• Prepare dining and beverage tables with special attention to sanitation and order.
• Answer questions and/or make recommendations for complementary items.
• Accurately take orders, produce bills, and take payment from customers using the Toast POS system.
• Deliver food and beverage to customers in a timely and efficient manner.
• Follow up with all customers shortly after delivering their food or beverage orders to be sure all the customer’s needs are met.
• Ask for and look at proper identification documents to ensure legal consumption of alcohol.
• Collaborate with other restaurant servers and kitchen/bar staff.
• Maintain a positive attitude when dealing with complaints or difficulties with customers.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education and/or Experience - High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) Ex: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Language Skills –Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with supervisor, clients, staff, vendors, etc.
• Other Qualifications – Ability to full comprehend guest requests, memos, reservations, promotional materials, event orders and similar written materials. Ability to move throughout the crowded room of guests. Ability to recognize different menu items to properly assist in food running if necessary. Ability to perform any general cleaning tasks using standard cleaning products assigned. Adhere to health standards. Remain courteous, friendly and professional to co-workers and supervisors at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is to remain in a motion for 90 percent of the time. The individual needs to move about the restaurant floor with ease and quickness to access tools, equipment, food, beverage, customers, and other necessary items to meet the customer’s needs. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the restaurant. They must regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 60 pounds. The individual must be capable of carrying and loading different parts and tools required to do the job, including but not limited to trays of plated food and beverage.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals (cleaning/sanitary chemical). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
