POSITION SUMMARY:

The Care Provider is responsible for providing personal assistance and routine daily care and services related to the residents in accordance with the Resident Care Profile, and/or as directed by the Executive Director and Health Services Director in order to enhance the residents’ independence and quality of life. In addition, the Care Provider is responsible for assisting residents with recreational activities to help maintain their optimum level of functioning. Care Provider may be required to provide supervision to Care Providers during an assigned shift. The Care Provider is responsible for providing direct personal care and supervision in accordance with the residents’ individualized Service Plan. The Care Provider will offer choice, maintain dignity and promote individuality in order to enhance the residents’ independence, satisfaction and quality of life. In addition to assisting the resident with activities of daily living, the Care Provider will encourage residents to participate in activities, work with housekeepers and maintenance staff to maintain community cleanliness, assist with dining services and communicate with other departments as needed to ensure resident needs are met.

1. Position Responsibilities

  • Assist residents in their Activities of Daily Living (ADL) tasks as needed and directed. This includes bathing, grooming, personal and dental hygiene, transportation to meals and activities, bowel and bladder functions (e.g., take to bathroom, portable commode, change incontinency products, etc.), shaving, dressing, and hair care.
  • As directed, provide supervision and direction to Care Providers on an assigned shift. This may include determining work responsibilities, ensuring resident care is provided in accordance with company policies/practices, break/meal period scheduling, securing additional staff in the event of a call-off and documentation of disciplinary issues if present.
  • Respond to resident’s needs promptly while maintaining each resident’s self- respect, personal dignity, personal safety and confidentiality.
  • Assist residents into and out of bed and wheelchair as needed, following safe lifting/transferring techniques.
  • Assist residents at mealtime, providing assistance with serving meals and clearing tables after each meal, as directed. Deliver room trays, as directed.
  • Encourage and assist residents in keeping rooms’ neat and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Communicate any observed or suspected resident change of condition to a supervisor immediately.
  • Respond timely to resident pull chords/alerts. Carry radio on person and respond as required.
  • Assist Activities Department staff in carrying out planned activities. Assist residents in preparing for activity and social programs.
  • Assure that resident care sign-off sheets are completed by the end of each shift. Assist new residents with arranging personal items and help to familiarize them to new surroundings, by introducing them to other residents.
  • Use Universal Precautions and follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Assist Care Providers and Medication Techs in the performance of their job requirements and assume caregiver and/or medication tech activities when needed.
  • Perform fire and safety procedures when needed to assure resident/staff safety. Display tact and friendliness when dealing with residents, families and visitors. Attend scheduled in-service classes and mandatory staff meetings.
  • Maintain all required certifications/licensures as required by state law or company policy.
  • Provide support to community’s marketing efforts through positive/friendly interaction during all property tours and telephone contact with the public, and as directed by a supervisor.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents and guests, following established safety standards.
  • Encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments.
  • Support a positive and professional image through actions and dress. Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Health Services Director, Traditions Care Director, Traditions Program Director or Executive Director. SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to safely operate standard household equipment (dishwasher, iron, vacuum, washer, dryer)
  • Able to operate standard office equipment, including fax machine, copier, telephone, etc.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn the theory and practice of assisted living and dementia care
  • Able to work with seniors and patiently interact with cognitively impaired individuals
  • Able to be flexible, adapt and respond to change, make decisions in stressful situations and prioritize tasks and projects.
  • Able to process information and apply common sense understanding to follow and carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Able to analyze, solve and respond to problems or concerns. * Able to count and perform moderately complex math problems
  • Able to read, write and speak the English language and to interact and communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, physicians, health care professionals, residents, and their families
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Able to obtain and maintain valid first aid and CPR certification
  • Able to obtain and maintain valid Food Handler’s certification, as needed
  • Be mobile and able to perform the physical requirements of the job. Good physical health, verified by a health screening, including a chest x-ray or an intradermal test result not more than 6 months prior or seven (7) days after employment
  • Must pass a criminal background clearance before beginning work

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $18.50 per hour
