Position Overview

This is a skilled Estimator position requiring the individual to manage all aspects of the construction project. They must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as they will be interacting with everyone involved in the project from architects to inspectors and internal staff.

Salary ranges from $77,400 to $86k, dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documents to prepare time, material, equipment, production, and labor estimates.

• Prepare preliminary estimates for planning purposes and detailed estimates based on final plans and specifications.
• Consult with clients, vendors, and others to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
• Maintain current and accurate information on prices from suppliers and contractors through direct contact and written materials.
• Prepare bid packages, estimates and analysis of subcontractor bids for projects of any size and complexity.
• Physically measure, assess the condition, and formalize estimates for commercial projects.
• Participate in the bidding process.
• Manage projects awarded from scheduling, resource allocation, cost projections, and billing.
• Check daily cost sheets for correctness, compliance with estimated cost, and if over budget, find out why and report to management.
• Prior to job startup, review with the job foreman the project plans, specifications and review the project startup list to ensure that each item is done.
• Verifying that job quantities are correct and submitted to Estimating with the appropriate coding.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred.
• Five (5) years construction estimating experience required or, the equivalent of education and experience.

Work Requirements

• Must be 18 years in age or older.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Must be willing to occasionally work off hours, nights, and weekends when necessary.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Working knowledge Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook preferred. Must be able to use the internet effectively.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.

• Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally. Must have excellent customer service skills.
