Four Directions Development Corporation (FDDC) in Orono, Maine is seeking a full time Accounting Assistant to support its financial operations. FDDC’s mission is to improve the social and economic conditions of the four Native American Tribes in Maine – the Maliseets, Mi’kmaq, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot – through education and investment in affordable housing, tribal business ventures and Native entrepreneurship.
Key duties include the following:
Qualified applicants should have an associate’s degree in accounting or bookkeeping, or the equivalent in closely related education and experience which demonstrates thorough knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting procedures; at least two years of proven professional experience in finance, accounting, contracts, budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and automated financial reporting systems preferred; related professional experience in a not-for-profit, tribal government or entity, community foundation, banking or financial services environment preferred; ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and statements; strong computer proficiency, especially in accounting and office software (QuickBooks, Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook and Word), Internet and related programs; prior experience working with Native American tribes and/or Native American ancestry preferred.
