We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Geospatial Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting complex spatial analyses, using advanced GIS tools, and contributing to the development of internal processes for geospatial data management and automation of analyses. The position will involve a leadership role that includes supervising and mentoring a team of 1-3 staff scientists and geospatial analysts and providing input and guidance to company Directors and Principals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a geospatial data management and analysis discipline within Four Peaks.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Data Solutions team to develop online mapping and GIS data management tools for clients.
  • Produce high-quality written documents including reports, technical memoranda, and presentations summarizing research findings and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Successfully manage geospatial data management and analysis projects related to forestry, instream habitat evaluations, river restoration, hydropower, and other areas of ecology.
  • Use GIS tools in the ESRI product suite (ArcGIS) and QGIS, to conduct advanced spatial analyses that include computing complex distances, extents, and areas and which may involve spatial joins, slope calculations, and analysis of multiple spatial attributes.
  • Develop, implement, and document methodologies for conducting spatial analyses.
  • Develop quality control protocols for verifying accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Lead team in adopting and implementing metadata standards for clear and comprehensive documentation of GIS data products.
  • Contribute to the development of internal processes for geospatial data pipelining and automation of analyses, using R and Python tools.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate geospatial analysis and spatial data management more broadly into Four Peaks projects. Note: Four Peaks encourages a hybrid working environment but the incumbent is expected to attend in-person meetings and contribute to a team-focused working environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, or related field plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in geospatial analysis
  • Expertise in GIS tools, including ArcGIS and QGIS, with demonstrated proficiency in conducting complex spatial analyses
  • Strong computational skills, with the ability to compute complex distances, extents, and areas
  • Experience with spatial joins, calculation of slope, and analysis of other spatial attributes
  • Ability to clearly document methodology and metadata
  • Proficiency in Python for geospatial data analysis and automation


Desired Experience

  • Previous experience in PNW and California in this area of specialty
  • Previous consulting experience
  • Experience managing fishery resources, particularly salmonids
  • GIS certifications


Location: This position will, ideally, be located in our Hood River, Oregon office; but we will consider candidates who are located near our Seattle, Wenatchee, or North Bonneville, Washington offices.
