Job Description: Major Gift Officer

Classification: Full Time, Salaried, Exempt (12 month)

Reports to: Director of Institutional Advancement

Job Summary:

Foxcroft School seeks an outgoing, dynamic, and engaging Major Gift Officer to solicit and close major gifts for a multi-million dollar building campaign. The Major Gift Officer will work closely with the Director of Institutional Advancement, Head of School, and Campaign leadership. A key member of the Advancement Team, the Major Gift Officer will help expand Foxcroft’s donor base by working collaboratively in actively developing and managing a portfolio of donors and prospects capable of making a gift of $10,000 or more to the Capital Campaign. As a front-line fundraiser, the Major Gift Officer spends the majority of their time cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors. In addition to capital gifts, this position also works towards soliciting and closing gifts to The Foxcroft Circle as well as planned gifts. The Major Gift Officer works in concert with the other members of the Advancement Team on all fundraising and friendraising efforts.

Key Responsibilities

● Manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of approximately 250 major gift prospects (150 active donors and 100 potential donors).

● Design and execute comprehensive fundraising and stewardship plans for each donor/prospect.

● Develop materials directed at individual donors/prospects, such as highly personalized proposals that are in line with donor interests and programmatic priorities and that generate ever-higher levels of giving from donors.

● Cultivate and expand current giving by planned gift donors and integrate planned gift objectives into major individual donor asks.

● Cultivate international donors and build an international giving program.

● Work with other affinity groups in their philanthropic efforts for the School.

● Identify future major gift prospects and develop a plan to move them along their philanthropic journey with the School.

● Assist in facilitating the relationships between major gifts prospects and the Head of School, Trustees, and other volunteer leaders.

● Write donor correspondence and proposals, and provide updates on major gift efforts.

● Assist in the identification of potential leadership volunteers and other partners to engage in major gifts outreach; recruit and support volunteer leaders.

● Participate actively in the creation and production of major gift and/or campaign marketing pieces, both print and electronic.

● Maintain complete and timely records of contacts with prospects and volunteers.

● Create reports that accurately reflect portfolio activity and performance.

● Travel frequently to build relationships to solicit and close major gifts.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree

● Minimum of one to three years of successful, face-to-face (virtual or in-person) fundraising relationship-building experience.

● Proven experience successfully engaging a diverse community.

● Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and work under deadlines.

● Excellent writing and communication skills.

● Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with multiple constituencies.

● A collaborative work style.

● Demonstrated strength in campaign volunteer management.

● Proficiency in using technology applications including Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Canva, and more. Blackbaud’s Raisers Edge experience is a plus.

● Professionalism and a high degree of discretion and confidentiality must be held.

● Occasional weekends and nights required.

● Travel required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the incumbent must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a telephone and in person. The employee is regularly required to listen, physically direct, and speak.

Occasionally, an incumbent may be required to lift up to 25 pounds, traverse uneven terrain and climb stairs while moving about campus, bend and stoop. Work hours may vary and include days, nights, and weekends. Employees may be required to drive a vehicle for student needs and/or on School business. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet; however, variations in noise level may occur when the employee attends school functions such as assemblies, school dances, and other events.
