Community Outreach Specialist Orthodox Jewish Initiative – COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign   The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers.  To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City. DOHMH COVID-19 Vaccination Plan- Round 3 Supplemental Gotham Center, LIC In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, DOHMH implemented a citywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the health care system and the NYC community. Although COVID-19 vaccines were commercialized in September 2023, the Bureau of Immunization and its partners across DOHMH, including the Division Management and Systems Coordination Bureau (DMSC) within Division of Disease Control, continues to promote confidence in COVID-19 and all other vaccines and to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccination across NYC.   DMSC leads administrative, surveillance, informatics, preparedness, policy, communications, community engagement, and racial equity and social justice activities for the Division of Disease Control, and guides the strategic use of Division resources to advance innovative and effective policies and programs.   POSITION OVERVIEW  The Community Outreach Specialist for the DMSC will conduct activities critical to the success of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, including assisting with the development of COVID-19 vaccine messaging for the public and conducting outreach to the Orthodox Jewish community and other priority communities to promote uptake of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. DMSC seeks a community coordinator that is versed and has strong connections to the community, to assist in key stakeholder communication and outreach.   RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct educational outreach activities in collaboration with the Bureau of Immunization and the Community Health promotion team to inform the public and promote the uptake of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine throughout NYC. Assist with public facing presentations using vetted PowerPoint slide decks and vetted messaging. Work under the direction of the Director of Community Health promotion to plan and participate in community-based health promotion events, including COVID-19 vaccine activities in communities with a high burden of COVID-19 illness. Work with the Orthodox Jewish community to build relationships and trust within the community and to promote or co-develop health messaging and interventions related to COVID-19 and other vaccine-preventable diseases. Participate in outreach to medical providers, religious institutions, professional societies, community groups, and community members, including by attending health fairs and other events, distributing educational materials, and giving in-person and virtual presentations on COVID-19 vaccination. Maintain and grow the Haredi Health Coalition, which provides consultation and advisement on community outreach and engagement. Assist in drafting and provide perspectives on the cultural responsiveness of educational and promotional materials.   PREFFERED SKILLS Bilingual Skills Preferred/Preferred Languages: Yiddish, Hebrew Commitment to the prevention of disease through immunization   QUALIFICATIONS   A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties describes above; or  Highschool graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as describes above; or  Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above.
