About Francis Parker School:

Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1315 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.” Francis Parker School has two campuses in close proximity. One in Mission Hills (Lower School JK-5), and a second in Linda Vista (Middle and Upper School 6-8 and 9-12, respectively).

Job Description:

The Lower School junior-kindergarten substitutes report to the Junior-Kindergarten Director as well as the Head of Lower School. Responsibilities include: following lesson plans provided; classroom management; preparing academic lessons (if on longer-term assignments); standing both playground and lunchroom duties as scheduled; and otherwise following established plans for the assignment.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess 12 post-secondary early childhood units from an accredited college or university and have 6 months of work experience in a licensed childcare center of similar program. Units must include courses in child growth and development; child, family and community; and program/curriculum. Additionally, the successful applicant will possess excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; have an abiding interest in helping students to experience academic and social growth; be successful in working with teams; be willing to contribute to school activities outside of the assigned classroom; be skilled in working with parents; and genuinely love to work with young children and educators at the primary level.
