The Organization
Francophone Charter School of Oakland is a French immersion charter school that opened its doors in 2015. Our mission is to provide a dual-immersion curriculum to a diverse community of students and to develop bilingual and bi-literate global citizens who are open minded and who value intellectual curiosity, personal integrity and creativity. We are a small (350 students in TK-8), tight-knit international community that is looking to expand its staff. We are in search of a joyful and kind paraprofessional to join our wonderful public French immersion elementary school community at the Fruitvale campus. No knowledge of French is required for the position.
The Mild-Moderate Paraprofessional provides support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students in grades TK- Third Grade with special needs in the general education setting. The paraprofessional will assist in implementing plans for instruction; small group and/or 1:1 reading intervention, monitoring student academics and behavior; and provide information to appropriate school personnel. Hours are 7:45-2:45 M, T, TH, F and 7:45-1:15 W.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Monitors classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and meeting learning goals.
• Monitors and supervises students at lunch and recess.
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff and administration for the purpose of communicating progress or implementing objectives.
• Escorts students (e.g. bathroom, classroom, community etc.…) for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and safe arrival to and/or from a destination as needed.
• Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, research-based interventions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Intervenes in potential conflicts utilizing appropriate approaches for the purpose of diffusing confrontations and minimizing disruptions.
• Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
• Monitors students' daily schedule and learning plan for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
• Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to the students in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; and ensuring access to the learning environment.
• Prepares the learning environment to allow students to participate in classroom activities.
• Supervises and escorts students during any and all emergency drills or during actual emergencies for the purpose of providing a safe learning environment as needed.
• Collects data on student learning goals for the purpose of maintaining accurate records and engaging in data-based decision making.
