What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Administrator position at Franklin County Court of Common Pleas - General Division?
This technical/administrative professional staff position is responsible for network administration and management; installing, maintaining, and monitoring the Local Area Network; maintaining the Local Area Network/Wide Area Network security, performance, standards, and policies; deploying and administering network servers; reviewing and evaluating vendor products; and providing help desk support as needed.
- Determines needs, oversees planning, installation, setup, support, and documentation of network systems
- Evaluates and recommends network server and storage hardware, software components, and upgrades as required
- Conducts vendor meetings for services, purchasing, and contract management
- Performs project management duties as it relates to defining scope of work, role assignment, deadlines, updates, and training
- Examines vendor work for exactness and contractual obligations
- Manages Local and Wide Area Network by providing access to Network resources and monitoring Network performance
- Administers and maintains Network Resources such as routers, switches, and firewall; administers and maintains System Resources such as server virtualization platforms, servers, storage area networks, workstations, and printers
- Documents procedures, draws network diagrams and communicates networking information to user community
- Problem solves, anticipates, researches, identifies root causes and presents solutions to the Director of Information Technology and/or Court Administration
- Assists with configuration of workstation images for mass deployment as needed
- Responsible for backup and recovery of networking, systems, data hardware and software
- Provides service to customers by answering questions, providing information, and assuring appropriate follow-through and/or resolution
- Communicates with managers, supervisors, coworkers and others maintaining confidentiality; represents the Court and County when assigned. Responds to networking inquiries by coworkers and employees
- Manages, maintains, and provides training for remote network access
- Assists the Director with areas in the department
- Serves as a liaison with networking vendors for support issues
- Responds to Help Desk calls and network alerts twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week via cell phone, remote access or on-site support
- Performs other related duties as required

- Ability to exert very moderate physical effort involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects & materials of moderate weight (12-20 lbs). Tasks may involve some stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling or prolonged standing in light work. Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience
- Three years’ experience:
- Network (LAN/WAN/WLAN) administration
- VMware administration
- Microsoft Active Directory administration
- Certifications in Cisco Network Administration
- Certifications in VMware Data Center Virtualization
- Certifications in Microsoft Systems Administration
- Experience with Veeam Backup Software
- Experience with HP Nimble SAN or similar SAN storage solution
- Experience with Office 365 Administration
