JOB SUMMARY

The Shift Lead ensures information is effectively shared and coordinates shift operations. A Shift Lead acts as a Field Training Officer (FTO) as required, administering a comprehensive training program for new officers and providing daily documentation of training activities. The Shift Lead is responsible for ensuring the security of the facility and staff as well as excellent customer service for internal and external customers. Shift Leads monitor and operate access control systems, security camera systems, intercoms, two-way radios, telephones, and alarm systems.

Additional Information: There is one Full Time non-exempt role and one Part Time non-exempt role available. The selected Full Time candidate will be eligible for the Conservatory's benefit package offered to full-time employees, which includes medical, dental and vision insurance, company paid Life/AD&D/Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement Program (OPERS), optional 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan, accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) which starts at 23 days annually, accrued Sick Time, 3 paid holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day), and complimentary membership to the Conservatory.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with coordinating security operations at the shift level.
  • Conduct a thorough shift briefing at the beginning of the shift.
  • Review all post assignments and verify correct staffing and post rotation. Serve as a part of staffing and post assignments.
  • Communicate with on duty security officers to determine priorities and responsibilities for the shift.
  • Coordinate staffing for special events.
  • Respond to the Secure Operations Center (SOC) in the event of activation of the emergency operations plan, representing Security until relieved. Act as a first responder, follow and provide appropriate responses during the activation of emergency operation plans. Protect persons and facilities during floods, fires, structural damages, utility outages, special events or during various security incidents.
  • Perform daily inspections of the facility, doors, locks, public and private spaces. Promptly report and document any damage in accordance with FPC's safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide input and review all dispatch log entries, incident reports for accuracy and complete a Shift Lead Summary Report at the conclusion of every shift.
  • Responsible for briefing the next Shift Lead or designated person on relevant operational information.
  • Follow FPC policy and procedures and post orders regarding Security Leadership notification for reporting adverse or significant events.
  • Proactively identify and problem solve issues which may negatively impact site security and facility occupant safety. .
  • Work alongside new Security Associates to ensure their practical understanding of security procedures.
  • Assist with triaging, de-escalation and resolving complaints and concerns or following up with notifications to Security Leadership.
  • Observe, report, and assist with the resolution of security incidents.
  • Escort emergency first responders to the location of emergencies, such as a fire.
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, stakeholders and staff.
  • Ensure accurate production of ID cards for staff and visitors.
  • Operate security systems in the Secure Operation Center (SOC), including video monitoring, access control, alarm systems, overhead announcements, and radio systems.
  • Provide after-hours or emergency access and escorts to restricted or sensitive areas.
  • Complete security surveys and risk assessments as trained and assigned.
  • Control facility keys and lock and unlock doors according to locking schedule(s).
  • Assist with parking management as needed.
  • Monitor the visitor entrance including controlling crowds and entrance flow; greeting visitors; and providing directions, as necessary.
  • Ensure all staff, visitors, and vendors are registered properly before entering secure areas of the property.
  • Perform the collection, transport, tracking, and release of patron valuables, including lost and found.
  • Detect, locate, and report smoke, unusual odors, and running water which may indicate safety problems.
  • Maintain standards and set a positive example in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance.
  • Complete other duties and training as assigned by the Security and Safety Supervisor or Security and Safety Director officer.

Field Training Officer Duties:

  • Provide consistent, comprehensive training, coaching, and evaluation of new officers as part of the department’s field training program. Serve as a positive example and mentor to all officers by modeling FPC’s standards of conduct.
  • Utilize tools including: Daily Observation Report and weekly evaluations to communicate with Security Leadership about trainee progress.
  • Participate in Safety and Security meetings to discuss shift operational needs, identify areas of improvement, and receive in-service training as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Age 21
  • High school degree, GED, or equivalent
  • Must have a driver's license; and the ability to meet and maintain the insurance guidelines set by Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical gardens (FPC) insurance company for driving vehicles.
  • Must have or obtain upon relocation a driver's license issued by the state of Ohio within one to three years of hiring.
  • Customer service experience and certification in first aid, adult/child CPR, and adult AED a plus.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism & customer service
  • Ability to quickly respond to emergent situations.
  • Skill in verbal communications, especially listening and recalling information during high stress conditions.
  • Knowledge of verbal and non-verbal tactics to safely de-escalate individuals preferred.
  • Skills in written communications including the ability to type accurate and detailed reports efficiently, recalling actions taken during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Knowledge of crime prevention methods and strategies. Knowledge of security practices used in safeguarding persons and property.
  • Ability to use computer systems, including spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, computer-aided dispatch, alarm systems, access control software, and surveillance cameras.
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends, occasional evenings, holidays and additional hours as assigned to meet shift staffing standards, and emergent staffing needs.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and be attentive and engaged for extended periods of time while performing duties.
  • Must be able to use a full range of body movement to assist visitors and ensure safety.
  • Must be able to walk on flat or incline surfaces (up and down) and go up and down stairs, especially in emergency situations.
  • May occasionally have to climb or balance.
