Position Summary:
The Store Associate will be responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks associated with the acquisition, storage, and distribution of food and other donated products, including pulling orders, checking out community partners, receiving incoming donations, unloading deliveries, repacking food products, operating warehouse equipment, and the general maintenance and cleanup for the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank (FRFB)’s warehouse.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure all required documentation necessary for compliance to occupational safety, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements is complete, accurate, and current.
- Distribution of FRFB products, assuring proper handling of supporting documentation in compliance with internal control procedures.
- Maintain good working knowledge of warehouse inventory.
- Assist in the warehouse’s daily operation and other related activities as required or assigned by the Store & Quality Manager.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and order in the warehouse and facility grounds.
- Ensure a FIFO/FEFO system is used for all inventory, including refrigerated, frozen, dry, and CNS products.
- Maintain product logs and provide daily records of any moved/transferred product, destroyed, or adjusted products. Product logs handed in daily (if used) to the Store & Quality Manager.
- Maintain rapport with community partners, donors, and their employees to foster continued support and a professional working relationship.
- Duties and hours may change in times of community unrest or distress, local or state emergencies, and economic hardships of our service area at large.
You may be assigned one of the following as a Primary Responsibility in addition to the Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Distribution Support
- Responsible for smooth and efficient distribution of products to community partners including, but not limited to, pulling and staging orders, assisting community partners with any shopping and weighing of product, and correctly capturing proper inventory codes in P2 for final print and signature of Order Invoice.
- Alert Store & Quality Manager of any order fulfillment issues as needed.
- Alert Operations Manager if orders are not staged correctly or picks are not accurate.
- Responsible for turning in all daily Invoices to the Store & Quality Manager.
Receiving/Logistics Support
- Receive incoming product donations. Complete all product logs and documentation associated with each incoming donation.
- Ensure shrink wrap and pallet tags are neat, free of debris, and legible.
- Daily inspections for refrigeration sanitation and neatness, including cleaning up cardboard and plastic refuse, squaring pallets, moving pallets, and preparing for anticipated next-day work.
- Assure tidiness and organization of work areas, including cooler, freezer, and Shopping Floor storage areas.
Core Skills:
- Must have keen time management skills and the ability to multitask.
- Understand the personal responsibility to follow all safety policies, health rules, programs, and procedures.
- Understand the personal responsibility to immediately report all unsafe acts, environments, behaviors, accidents, and incidents.
- Ability to drive automatic and standard vehicles, operate standard warehouse equipment, and demonstrated the ability to maintain standard warehouse equipment. Certification must be acquired within 30 days of hire.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices, particularly road/vehicle safety
- Ability to safely lift items up to 50 pounds frequently using safe lifting techniques
- Up to 2/3 of the time: walk, sit, squat, bend, twist, and reach various heights above and below shoulder level.
- Up to 1/3 of the time: push or pull; lift large, heavy, awkward objects while maneuvering in a confined space.
- Work inside freezers and coolers with a temperature of -10 to 38°F. PPE provided.
- Strong commitment to quality record keeping, customer service, and operational efficiency without shortcutting processes
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work well with other staff and to relate to donors and agency representatives.
Working Conditions: This position requires the employee to work occasionally on weekends. The Warehouse Associate is often required to work in a warehouse that mimics seasonal temperatures, hot & humid summers, and cold & wet winters for several hours at a time.
