Position Details
The Maintenance workers are responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment in County buildings, equipment and grounds.
Maintenance Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensures employees have a safe and clean working area.
• Ensure the buildings are safe and clean for the public.
• Provides security for County buildings by locking and unlocking doors and offices, closes the facilities by turning out lights, ensures office areas are closed, and closes and locks main doors. Maintains electronic locks.
• Designs and performs carpentry and remodeling.
• Maintains building operational equipment including: air compressors, heating and cooling systems, roof top units, generators and boilers.
• Performs scheduled maintenance on equipment and documents maintenance activities.
• Maintains grounds by mowing lawns, removing weeds, landscaping, planting, sweeping, etc.
• Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, entry ways, parking lots, and roadways using pick up with plow, skid loader and shovels.
• Maintains all tools and equipment.
• Maintain landscaping and weed control.
• Maintains plumbing repairs.
• Attends training/education and staff meetings as required.
• Maintains knowledge of all relevant OSHA, Right-To-Know, and AWAIR requirements.
While these are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as part of their role with the County.
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of snow and ice removal techniques and practices.
• Knowledge of building heating and cooling systems.
• Ability to consistently follow safety and security policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of building operational equipment, including boiler operations and maintenance.
• Knowledge of lock and security equipment and procedures.
• Skill in use of hand tools.
• Skill in prioritizing work.
• Skill in self-motivation. • Ability to work independently under limited supervision for results achieved.
• Ability to apply work standards and judgement within goals set by supervisor.
• Ability to establish effective relationships and communication with supervisor, co-workers, county staff and building visitors to carry out work tasks.
Education and Experience
• Requires a high school degree or GED
• One year of relevant experience
Licenses/Certifications
This position will require the acquisition and maintenance of the following additional certificates/licenses:
• 2nd Class C Boiler License
• Valid Driver’s License
• Right to Know Training
Equipment and Tools
• Skid loader and pickup for snow removal
• Able to run and fix generator
• Must be able to use hand tools that include drills, wrenches and grinders.
• Must be able to use lawn mowers and weed eaters
• Must be able to use cleaning equipment that includes carpet cleaner, floor scrubber and power broom.
Physical and Mental Requirements
This job typically requires: sitting, standing, walking, driving, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, typing, and seeing. This position is moderate duty and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force frequently.

Working Conditions
