Reports To: School Nurse, Building Principal(s), and Director of Special Services
Supervises: None
Job Goal: To assist School Nurse in providing quality school nurse services to meet specific requirements in state statutes, state rules and regulations and District policy related to the overall health care of students in the school system. Assists School Nurse in the collecting and maintaining of student health data.
Performance Responsibilities:
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions
of the job include: administering first aid; adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment; matching student to materials and delivery method, and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform functional academics; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to
satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: age appropriate activities; M.A.N.D.T. training; stages of child development; health standards and hazards; Applied Behavioral Analysis and behavior
modification; and safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather, collated, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data
utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting patience and compassion, working with frequent interruptions, and communication with diverse groups.
RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding and/or coordinating others, and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Frequent lifting (up 35-50 pounds periodically), carrying, pushing and/or pulling of students; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 35% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.

- Assists in maintaining health records and obtaining necessary medical records as required by School Nurse
- Renders emergency first aid and/or emergency care as necessary to students and staff members in compliance with established standards and completes accident and service reports and logs.
- Assist in emergency situations in performing all tasks necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of the student and staff
- Dispenses medications as necessary during the school day in compliance with established procedures and practices.
- Update student health information
- Review student immunizations and communicate with parents as necessary to acquire all required information.
- Assist with health screenings including vision, hearing, heights and weights under the supervision of the nurse
- Conducts inventory of supplies
- Maintain first aid and room supplies
- Read various charts and graphs and interpret data into charts for documentation purposes.
- Interacts positively and appropriately with students and staff.
- Maintains confidentiality standards as defined by local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
