Job Title: Diesel Mechanic Trainee
Branch: Truck or Cat Shop
Report To: Truck or Cat Manager
Schedule: Day Shift
Wage Range: $23.10
JOB SUMMARY
The Diesel Mechanic Trainee reports to the Truck or CAT Shop Manager and is assigned primarily to assist the mechanics in the repair of fleet and equipment in order to optimize the needs of the operations and minimize equipment downtime. The diesel mechanic trainee entails running equipment, diagnosing mechanical issues, troubleshooting, repairing and lubricating the equipment.
Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending upon company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and be able to easily tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Previous experience working in an engine shop is preferred. Applicable experience includes working with grease guns, tools, diagnostic machines, etc.
· Qualified candidates and promote safety at all times, service, repair, adjust and test equipment to maximize performance and limit downtime.
· Inspect and troubleshoot cause of issues and address and perform repairs using tools in a safe manner.
· Ensure all documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Basic Computer skills are preferred.
· Assist the Diesel Mechanics and perform other duties as assigned.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
If needed, the Diesel Mechanic Trainee may be required to perform duties in other areas of the facility and at other sites. These responsibilities encompass a wide range including basic diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair in all types of weather and conditions.
Requirements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Standing continuously, lifting to 40 pounds, constantly moving, repetitive motion of the shoulders, arms, hands and fingers
· Bending, stooping, crouch, squat, kneel, crawl, climb steps, reach at or above shoulder and below shoulder, grasping, squeezing continuous
· May work at multiple locations
· Working five to six days per week
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Requirements : High school diploma or GED
Diesel Engine Repair Experience Preferred : At least 1 year
Mechanical Knowledge Experience Preferred: At least 1 year
Positive Interpersonal and Customer Service skills
Time Management Skills
Must be flexible and adaptable to changing roles and responsibilities
Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage efficiently and effectively
Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, plant management, customers and owners
