General Description
The role and responsibilities of an EHS Specialist are as follows:
- Provide technical assistance to the leadership team including supervisory personnel.
- Conduct periodic safety audits, inspections, and observations.
- Investigate incidents to determine root causes and appropriate corrective actions.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and revise health and safety policies and procedures.
- Act in an advisory capacity to management and supervisors on matters of injury and illness prevention, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulations/requirements.
- Plan, develop and deliver effective health and safety training.
- Prepare required injury/illness reports for federal, state, and local agencies.
- Analyze injury/illness trends to determine areas of needed improvement.
- Perform basic/routine duties in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with the EHS standards along with federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
Work Experience Requirements
Qualifications for a position as an EHS Specialist include:
- Fundamental understanding of OSHA General Industry standards
- At least one (1) year of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) preferred
- Professional Certification (CSP, CIH, ASP, GSP, etc.) from a nationally recognized organization preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of Behavior Based Safety principles
- Must be able to withstand some occasional cold temperature (40° F), when needed to sort out products in refrigerator (max 3 hours).

Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, preferably in the environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene field.
