Aviation 15T - Army UH-60 Helicopter Repairer.
Job Description:
- The Army UH-60 Helicopter Repairer (MOS 15T) performs maintenance on UH-60 Helicopters.
- The UH-60 Helicopters are also known as the Black Hawk and are one of the fastest and easily maneuverable helicopters.
- It is up to the UH-60 Helicopter Repairer to ensure that the Black Hawk is prepared for flight and all systems are ready to go. The UH-60 Helicopter Repairer is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, inspecting, and performing maintenance on the Black Hawk.
- Members in this position are required to be familiar with how to fix the various systems on a Black Hawk including the fuel, electrical, and hydraulic system. During training, they will learn how to properly disassemble and repair the engine. They will also learn and be required to repair the fiberglass, steel, and aluminum airframes.
- The UH-60 Helicopter Repairer is required to be familiar with the repair and installation of aircraft subsystem assemblies. These assemblies can include engines, main rotor head, hydraulic pump, transmissions, gearboxes, rotors, and mechanical flight controls. Black Hawk Repairers will service and lubricate the aircraft system and any related subsystems.
- Some job functions can include checking for continuity and voltage, completing measurements of equipment, and replacing/tightening parts to the exact required values. They will prepare the aircraft for inspections and any required maintenance checks. Routine inspections include taking oil samples from gearboxes and checking lines for leaks.
- Repairers log all maintenance activities, in order to create proper service records for ongoing maintenance. You’ll also learn how to log and inventory any tools used in your work.
- Repairers soon become familiar with all the tools used and know the specifications for each tool. You may even be required to fly on the helicopter as an aircrew member or complete repairs in odd locations during odd hours.
- There will also be times when you have to prepare the aircraft for flight or remove it from storage.
- New experiences and situations allow soldiers with constant growth and learning opportunities.
Qualifications and Training:
- To enter into this Army MOS, individuals will be required to receive a score of 104 on the Mechanical Maintenance (MM) portion of the ASVAB.
- When all required testing and entrance examinations have been completed, recruits will attend 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training.
- Recruits/Applicants wishing to go into the UH-60 Helicopter Repairer position will be required to attend 15 weeks of Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis Virginia.
- This training provides on-the-job instruction with both classroom and field training.
Skills that are helpful in this position:
- Ability to work with both hand and power tools
- Desire to work in a career that involves aircraft and engine mechanics
- Preference for a job that uses both mathematics and shop mechanics
Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen or I-551 cardholder.
- Must be between the age of 17-34.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass a criminal background check with no open law violations.
- Must pass a drug screen.
- No felony.
- Must currently be in good health with no physical limitations.
Compensation:
- Total compensation includes housing, medical, food, special pay, and vacation time.
