General Purpose
This position helps to create an excellent guest experience by performing set-up and breakdown duties for Zoo events and delivers a fun, memorable birthday party experience through positive, energetic interaction with all party guests.
We are pleased to offer this position an Employee Assistance Program, 401K, Paid CA Sick Time earned on an accrued basis. The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $19.00 per hour. Offers will be based on the successful candidate’s experience.
Essential Accountabilities
Performs all set up and clean-up tasks for each birthday party to ensure that the birthday party area is ready for guests’ arrival, presenting a clean, organized first impression.
Greets birthday party client and birthday child to gather special requests, answer questions and provide a personal welcome to the Zoo and assists client out at the end of the birthday party. Interacts with all guests throughout the birthday party to facilitate smooth progression of party events.
Coordinates with in-house caterer to ensure set up and timing of food and beverage for birthday party guests is accurate.
Effectively communicates and works cooperatively with management and fellow employees before, during, and after an event. Works closely with Birthday Party Coordinator for birthday parties and Event Set Up Lead for public and private events.
Sets up and breaks down private and public events, including but not limited to, tables, chairs, lighting, and other equipment needs.
Assists with installation of seasonal exhibitions on-site and off-site as needed
Handles guest complaints and/or problematic requests in a professional, service-focused manner. Alerts management of serious concerns or uncooperative event guests.
Follows instructions and completes assigned tasks with minimal oversight. Demonstrates attention to detail and efficient workflow.
Adheres to safety procedures in all aspects of work, including the use of Zoo equipment. Uses good judgment and proper lifting techniques (team lift, etc.) while lifting/moving heavy items. Participates in safety trainings as assigned.
Maintains and inventories Zoo equipment to ensure safety, security, and proper operation. Problem solves and troubleshoots equipment as needed. Maintains order in storage areas and returns equipment to its proper place.
Greets Zoo guests in a friendly, professional manner throughout the workday.
Assists coordinators and managers with vendor logistics and supervision.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Some related experience in a customer service or special events environment preferred but not required.
Strong verbal English language communications skills required.
Bilingual (Spanish or Hmong) communication skills a plus.
Valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record, preferred.
Ability to work evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to drive and operate zoo vehicles including, but not limited to a Taylor Dunn and golf cart.
Ability to work overtime as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the employee to stand and walk continuously throughout the shift. The employee is regularly required to bend, stoop, or crouch to set up event equipment.
The employee is regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
Visual acuity to read printed instructions and safety information.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone), at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position primarily functions outdoors, with exposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather.
The position may work in close proximity to Zoo animals.
Occasional local travel may be required.
