Job Overview:

Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is seeking a skilled Government Grant Writer responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure state and federal funding. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and prospecting skills, especially with agencies that fund STEM education, environmental and conservation initiatives.

Duties

  • Research and identify potential funding opportunities from various sources.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to gather information for grant proposals
  • Prepare and submit grant proposal
  • Manage grant reporting and compliance, including tracking deliverables and outcomes.
  • Write clear, concise, and compelling grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization's mission, goals, and programs
  • Develop budgets and financial reports to accompany grant proposals
  • Maintain accurate records of all grants applied for and received
  • Monitor and track progress of funded projects to ensure compliance with grant requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in grant writing, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft persuasive narratives. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in written materials
  • Proficiency in financial report writing and budget development
  • Excellent research skills to identify relevant funding sources
  • Knowledge of databases and software used in grant management
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
