SUMMARY: To provide instruction, observe and evaluate child performance. To create lesson plans and actively lead classroom activities. Responsible for developing and maintaining a positive repertoire with parents; responsible for the assessment of individual childs educational and related needs as well as development and implementation of individualized educational programs and related responsibilities including parent conferences, working with an interdisciplinary team approach, organization and management of classroom staff and programs including daily communications with classroom support staff and to be the leader for carrying out childrens plans of care.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities includes the following.
- Demonstrates a mastery level of each childs curriculum outcomes and be able to articulate these to teacher assistants and parents.
- Actively contribute to the continuing development of improved curriculum to achieve plan of care outcomes, child growth and development and kindergarten readiness indicators.
- Maintain a classroom climate conducive to learning and active engagement in activities.
- Continuously plan learning activities that recognize the different needs, abilities, and skills necessary for effective participation of children.
- Demonstrate effective use and proper care of materials and supplies
- Responsible for developing and posting lesson plans.
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing classroom schedules.
- Follows ITERS/ECERS in maintaining minimum four rating at all times / minimum of five for ABC classrooms as evaluated by Preschool Consultant.
- Uses positive disciplinary/classroom management techniques in accordance with DHS regulatory standards and FCC guidelines.
- Ensures that children are clean by wiping noses, faces, and hands as needed, and sends children home with clean/fully dressed appearance.
- Checks diapers often and changes upon discovered need.
- Feeds children according to nutritional guidelines. Follows parent/doctor instructions concerning feedings (staying within DHS guidelines unless requested on doctors note). Ensures staff documents infant feedings and is trained in tube feeding as needed through a mentoring and coaching approach.
- Greets parents, children, and other staff in pleasant manner upon arrival.
- Leads scheduled activities including music, gym time, outdoor playtime, library, and other special times as instructed.
- Works cooperatively with parents/staff members to ensure positive, productive atmosphere.
- Responsible for timely completion of DDS licensure, Medicaid and all governing licensing requirements on student case load including daily Lesson Plans, Progress Notes, quarterly reports, and monthly calendar.
- Provide for appropriate child participation in developing and achieving classroom mastery level concepts.
- Provide continuous monitoring and recording of child mastery level concepts commensurate with childs plan of care.
- Assures completion of childrens arrival/departure times and daily billing documentation is accurate.
- Responsible for implementation of Individual Treatment Plan (ITP). Sets up, implements, and monitors Behavior Management Systems, and individualized behavior intervention plans as needed.
- Collects Work Sampling/ Ounce data on ABC/ABCSS children and maintains portfolios on all ABC/ABCSS children.
- Conducts a minimum of two parent teacher conferences with ABC/ABCSS children annually.
- Enters all Work Sampling/Ounce data into databased system.
- When requested, will be responsible for referrals and eligibility evaluations after referral. Presents and interprets evaluations to parents at conferences. Conducts evaluations once qualified.
- Conducts developmental screenings as scheduled or requested. Will complete developmental screening on all ABC/ABCSS children within 10 days of enrolment and make referrals for any who failed screening.
- Prepare and complete all plans of care on each child on caseload. Actively participate in conferences to include Evaluation Programming, Annual Review, and Dismissal.
- Facilitate smooth transition to public school by scheduling conferences with the families and appropriate school districts in the spring of each year. Will contact school district, set up appointment times, and complete all required paperwork.
- Review day habilitation notes for accuracy each day.
- Demonstrate the ability to disaggregate test data and determine areas to provide instruction for each child on caseload.
- Report child progress to parents in an accurate and professional manner.
- Collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, and parents to create ITP.
- Work collaboratively with therapist in classroom setting to ensure best outcomes for children.
- Directly supervises, engages with, and teaches all children in classrooms throughout the day.
- Stays informed of child's record information to ensure only authorized persons pick up child.
- Assists in field trip activities as needed.
- Ensures classrooms are in ratio at all times. Communicates effectively with program administrator and teacher assistants to ensure compliance at all times.
- Will conduct annual evaluations of assigned teacher assistants.
- Will ensure that your classrooms and bathrooms remain clean by:
- Keeping diaper changing area neat/clean (away from food preparation areas). Uses appropriate chemicals to clean changing table after each use.
- Keeping room refrigerator clean, including staff completion of Refrigerator Log and being responsible for food labeling/disposal.
- Assuring room ready for childrens arrival each morning.
- Assisting in room pick up/cleaning as needed, including cleaning up spills as occur.
- Sanitizing toys daily by spraying with bleach/water combination and wiping clean. Places harder-to-clean toys in bleach/water solution (1/4 bleach to 1 gallon water).
- Oversees walls, doorknobs, and light switch cleaning with appropriate chemicals as needed.
- Ensures laundry schedule is followed according to responsibilities and procedure.
- Assists/attends in-house staff meetings, training, workshops, conferences, parent functions and extra-curricular activities (public relations, civic clubs, organizations), including required out-of-town
- or overnight travel, as required.
- Completes all ABC data entry in COPA for all ABC children in your assigned classroom.
- Provides direct teaching in classroom for minimum seven (7) contact hours per day per ABC student.
- When necessary, contact families to fill empty ABC classrooms slots as openings arise.
- Assists in ABC/ABCSS enrollment as deemed by Program Administrator.
- Develops/coordinates lesson plans using approved curriculum and written clearly enabling substitute to follow in teachers absence.
- Works safely by following OSHA/Infection Control guidelines at all times.
- Takes responsibility to obtain required professional development hours yearly to maintain compliance.
- Will perform nursing duties as needed to include passing out and documenting medications, stocking first aid kits, catharizing children, tube feeding, calling parents to send children home for medical needs, head lice found during head checks. Ensure monthly heights/weights are completed and recorded on each child. Complete weekly safety checks in assigned classrooms.
- Perform duties as needed when assigned as back-up Lead Teacher.
- Plan and organize parent/family involvement events such as PTO Kindergarten Readiness Program, Christmas Program, PTO Movement Program, and Graduation Program.
- This includes conducting and organizing practices, preparing decorations, developing PowerPoints, and creating programs.
- Reports child's record updates to office staff, as needed.
- Reports any abuse/neglect signs to the hotline on day of discovery, completes necessary paperwork, and reports to the Program Administrator.
- Creates and maintains regular communications with parents including monthly calendars, daily cuddle-grams, planned activities, newsletters, etc.
- Develops curriculum materials one week in advance and actively teaches skill lessons in groups and/or individually based on plan of care.
- Maintains current certification in Infant/Toddler CPR, First Aid and OSHA by attending annual courses and serves as First Responder for Preschool. (At HBV vaccine offer, must sign waiver to decline.)
- Participates in weekly, monthly, and annual staff meetings as arranged by Program Administrator. Develops and conducts monthly staff training as needed.
- Conducts weekly staff meetings for no less than 30 minutes in order to review childrens goals & objectives, review FCC procedures, as well as provide staff development for classroom planning purposes.
- Demonstrate and model continuous professional growth and to apply learning to classroom activities.
- Continually develop a cooperative, energetic, flexible, and creative working relationship with children, colleagues, and administration.
- Attends all training activities as required by Administration, licensing units, and/or Staff Trainer.
- Follows FCC Policy/Procedures manual and minimum licensing requirements for childcare centers.
- Abides by FCC Code of Conduct at all times.
- Complies with all DHS minimum childcare regulations.
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Requires a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Early Childhood Education/Special Education, or ALP in Early Childhood/Special Education, or four-year degree in related area with some experience in working with children and families or meet the minimum requirements for Developmental Therapist as set forth by First Connections standards.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or FCC employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
