This position is responsible for managing the overall operations of the facility. Ensures the residents are cared for in a safe and caring environment. Ensures staff, properties, and equipment are managed in accordance with company policies and procedures and the various regulatory bodies. Upholds the philosophy, vision, and core values of the organization. Reviews and coordinates budgets and accounting procedures of facility.
REPORT TO: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Nursing Home Administrator’s license is required.
2) Bachelor’s degree in a health care, business or gerontology related field is preferred but not required.
3) Three years experience working in a management position in a long-term care facility is preferred.
4) Prior experience where there has been increasing responsibility with a focus on detail and organization is desirable.
5) Experience with computer and other office machinery is required.
6) Must be able to demonstrate abilities in the areas of regulatory compliance, staff recruitment and retention, census development and fiscal management.
7) Experience in working with the problems and concerns of older adults and their families.
8) Must be able to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
9) Must be self-motivated and posses a positive attitude and approach.
10) Must be able to work independently, collaboratively and confidentially with members of a corporate level team.
11) Must possess excellent command of the English language and have strong communication skills.
12) Must have good working knowledge of budgets and compliance standards.
13) Must be able to prioritize work, make good decisions based on data and take action when necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1) Work is mainly sedentary in nature but may require frequent walking through the facility to and from other departments.
2) Reaching for and handling charts, reports and supplies.
3) Working for extended periods of time on the computer system.
4) Speaking and hearing when receiving instructions and conversing with others.
5) Reading and accurately recording information.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Promotes the health and wellness of all residents at the community.
2) Ensures a “resident focus” is maintained by all staff and that a home like environment is provided for each resident.
3) Maintains close contact with residents and is available to families and/or legal representatives to answer questions pertaining to the resident’s care or financial concerns.
4) Promotes a customer focus by building and maintaining relationships, seeking feedback and improving customer service.
5) Assists with resolving resident/family grievances.
6) Serves as a resident advocate and ensures resident’s rights are preserved.
Evaluates and actively seeks ways to improve resident care outcomes, resident satisfaction, departmental operations and organizational performance.
Promotes a positive/uplifting work environment within the staff.
7) Models healthy communication, and promotes cooperation and team work.
8) Coaches and mentors supervisors in the management of departmental functions and in the management of staff.
Provides organizational oversight and day to day management of various programs of care for residents.
9) Receives direct and timely reports from the medical director, consultants and department directors in regard to resident care and operations, in order to ensure practices are in accordance with the company policies and procedures and the core values.
Ensures staff are trained, have the necessary resources to perform the job, that they have meaningful work to maximize job satisfaction, and that they are valued.
10) Approves hiring, promotions, and transfer of staff.
11) Maintains effective departmental orientation programs.
Evaluates the work performance of staff, who directly report to the Administrator, using the established Annual Performance Evaluation process.
Ensures that facility is financially stable and that ethical and financially sound business practices are used.
12) Monitors the monthly revenues and expenses and ensures an inventory system for consumables is maintained.
13) Submits capital and operating budgets, working closely with the Chief Financial Officer.
Participates in the strategic planning process for the community and establishes goals, objectives and benchmarking targets.
14) Monitors staff performance in meeting or exceeding standards and ensures compliance with applicable laws, rulings, such as OSHA, CDC,CMS, HIPAA, state licensure laws, Fair Housing Act, etc. and company policies and procedures. Stays abreast of changes in these laws, rulings, policies and procedures and keeps staff informed.
15) Serves as HIPAA Security Officer. Responsible for the ongoing management of information security policies, procedures, and technical systems in order to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all organizational healthcare information systems.
16) Ensures staff maintain safe working practices and are knowledgeable of the Disaster Plan and their specific roles. Works closely with the local fire and police departments to ensure a safe environment for residents is maintained.
17) Ensures facilities are well maintained, clean and functioning properly.
Supports the safety programs, employee recognition programs and other programs the company sees as key to organizational success.
18) Attends and participates in community activities in order to serve as a resource and liaison to the local community.
19) Directs and/or serves on essential committees including, but not limited to, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI); Compliance Committee; Risk and Safety Committee.
20) Participates in other duties as may be assigned that support the organizational success of the company.
