- POSITION PURPOSE
- Performs billing and clerical functions necessary to bill and collect for physician services processed by the Physician’s Billing Department.
- MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
- High School or Equivalent (GED)
- MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 3 months – 1 year
- LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Previous experience at a physician office or hospital-billing department.
- Demonstrates knowledge of procedure and diagnosis coding.
- Ability to read, write, speak, hear and comprehend the English language.
- PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from the Electronic Health System software while sitting at a desk for long periods of time performing keyboard functions.
- Communicates and develops a working/problem solving relationship with co-workers, physician office staff, and insurance companies.
- Utilizes telephone skills to allow for courteous and professional contact with patients, insurance companies, and physician offices.
- Accurately enters pertinent information into the billing software.
- Retrieves needed information from clinic sites to resolve problem accounts.
- Accesses and retrieves information from the Hospital’s computer network systems.
- Accesses and retrieves information from various insurance website’s to verify claim and eligibility status along with carrier submission guidelines.
- Accurately appeals problem claims with appropriate insurance companies.
- Researches and resolves overpayments.
