SUMMARY

Develops, implements, and oversees procurement efforts for the company within their assigned category. Category can change based on leadership direction and can include, but is not limited to, raw materials, chemicals, packaging, co-pack items, finished goods for resale, supplies, and capital equipment. Responsible for tactical and strategic roles with reporting requirements. Office based role as per leadership direction.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements commodities and purchasing strategies to ensure that purchases conform to internal approval requirements, pre-determined quality standards, required specifications and scope of projects or products.
  • Builds reliable sources of high quality, product differentiated purchases, competitively priced from approved suppliers.
  • Develops low risk supply chains including robust risk mitigation of key commodities to ensure continued supply even in challenging times.
  • Negotiates contracts and pricing while understanding the global marketplace of their category.
  • Aggressively pursues supply chain efficiency, supplier claims, rebates, rework cost mitigation and cost saving projects, while ensuring that all products continue to meet required minimum standards.
  • At minimum meets, expected to exceed, annual objective targets set by VP Global Procurement.
  • Tracks, reports, and supports targets, outcomes, and results, providing data on out of stocks, inventory positions and other required measures to inform leadership of company performance.
  • Creates and analyzes all data to make informed decisions on purchases, inventory levels, supply chain risk and receipt of goods to meet company requirements.
  • Maintains positive relationships with suppliers across their category, while understanding the competitive nature of the category and ensuring price competitiveness of suppliers.
  • Ensures purchasing documents are complete and terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate, understands supply chain costs and continues to negotiate for improved terms.
  • Develops systems and maintains proper inventory levels on raw materials, supplies, and finished goods for resale against company requirements, safety stock and ensuring no out of stocks.
  • Assures that department records are accurately maintained and kept up to date to ensure approval status of suppliers.
  • Travels domestically and internationally as needed to meet with suppliers and potential suppliers, attend trade shows and association meetings as per approval from VP Global Procurement.
  • Has a critical role in assuring food safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Strives to reduce waste, recycle products whenever possible, and re-use resources when practical.
  • Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training.
  • Reports injuries and near misses promptly and in required detailed format; proposes corrective action.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in purchasing, supply chain, business or engineering from four- year college or university; and 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • APICS certification and CPM preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Read, analyze, and interpret such items as highly detailed professional, scientific, and technical journals, legal documents, and internal data.
  • Respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from both inside and outside the company.
  • Write presentations, articles or memos using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to such groups as top management, boards of directors, associations, or the general public.

 

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

  • Comprehend the most complex financial principles and possess very strong quantitative and analytical skill sets.
  • Use a computer to create highly customized spreadsheets and charts, run reports, and interpret data.
  • Analyze balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and the most detailed types of financial documents, and apply that information to communicate as well as make long-term, strategic decisions.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Needs to work well in all cultures and in different countries, able to pick up non spoken cues.
  • Needs to work well within a team environment.
  • Takes ownership of their role and responsibilities to meet the goals of the department and organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and organizational skills with strong excel skills, preferably with pivot table skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office programs; familiarity with other business software.
  • Familiarity with Materials Resource Planning (MRP) process.
  • Knowledge of market conditions and sources of supply/services, procurement laws and regulations.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
