Description
Position Summary: The primary responsibility of a Pharmacy Cashier is to take excellent care of our customers and patients by satisfying each customer’s needs, exceeding their expectations, and making every Fruth Pharmacy visit a pleasant and satisfying experience. This requires accurately and efficiently operating the cash register, providing various services at the pharmacy service counter, and maintaining security and control of all funds, medications, and confidential patient information near the cash register, in the pharmacy, and immediate area. May be required to work either the pharmacy register or the main store register.
Responsibilities / Duties:
- Receive written prescriptions brought to the pharmacy or telephoned refill requests.
- Make sure all needed patient information is collected on new written prescriptions or telephoned refill requests.
- Answer telephone and handle questions that do not require a pharmacist’s professional judgment or a pharmacist's or technician's expertise.
- Process checkout in a timely order and manner so as to best take care of patient needs.
- Retrieve complete prescriptions from the pickup (will call) area.
- Help patients find over-the-counter medications.
- Stock over-the-counter departments.
- Ring purchases on cash registers and record them in the logs that required by securing proper signatures.
- Perform housekeeping duties within the pharmacy department.
- Work closely with pharmacists, technicians, fellow clerks, trainees, and other store personnel.
- Work with patients, patients’ caregivers, prescribers and their office personnel, and with suppliers to the pharmacy.
- Maintain and keep patient information with the HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain Will Call per policy
- Other duties as assigned
Specific Responsibilities Pharmacy Cashiers CANNOT perform:
- Pharmacy Cashiers MUST act within the legal rules of the applicable pharmacy practice act in their state.
- The following duties are to be performed ONLY by a registered pharmacist (or intern):
- Receipt of oral prescriptions from prescribers or prescriber’s authorized designees (new telephone orders)
- Consultation with prescribers or prescribers’ designees about patients’ prescription.
- Checking of medications prior to dispensing
- Consultation with patients about prescribed medication use or other health care issues.
- Recommend over-the-counter medications.
- Technician Scheduling
- The following duties are to be performed ONLY by Pharmacy Technicians, interns, or pharmacists:
- Prescription Processing
- Prescription Bagging
- MTM case preparation and billing
- Medsync patient calls
- Store DME Coordinator
Qualifications:
- 18 years of age
- Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check to begin employment.
- A felony conviction of any kind will disqualify an applicant from employment.

- Successful Completion of the Technician Training Program
