DOT Operations Manager
Position Summary:
Develop and implement safety initiatives and programs to control and prevent loss events, including accidents, personal injuries, and other preventable losses.
Develop procedures and performs inspections, training, and consultation to ensure that facilities, work procedures, and protocols comply with rules, laws, regulations and policies and procedures.
Skills:
- Proven experience as an operations manager or similar leadership role
- Exceptional experience with regulatory safety and compliance
- Working knowledge of pertinent Federal and State regulations including but not limited to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, DOT, EPA, and OSHA
- Conveys information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; adjusts communication to meet the needs of the audience
- Outstanding organizational and leadership skills with the ability to gain consensus, motivate and empower others
- Basic computer skills in utilization of Microsoft and TMS software
- Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Class A CDL is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Promote, inspect, and ensure safety first in all areas of the operation
- Maintain accurate and current driver qualification and alcohol files as required
- Understand, communicate, administer, and enforce compliance with DOT rules and regulations, company policies, and any state and/or federal laws and regulations including OSHA
- Maintain the safety and compliance culture with full responsibility for compliance with DOT, federal, state, and local regulations
- Ensure all drivers are operating within the DOT regulations and are DOT and safety compliant
- Effectively communicate information concerning new or revised Federal and State regulations
- Ensure all records of duty status are audited for compliance and initiate refresher training and/or corrective action for drivers in violation
- Ensure all monthly, quarterly, and annual IFTA, HUT and other various taxes and permits are filed and updated in a timely manner
- Monitor and maintain company safety awards program
- Monitor personnel and/or equipment locations and utilize to coordinate service and schedules
- Plan and administers safety committees by chairing quarterly safety meetings, developing meeting agendas, writing meeting minutes, and conducting follow-up on safety related issues by tracking, reporting, resolving
- Participate in the internal safety audit program by conducting system safety audits; develop audit checklists and writing audit reports
- Review vehicle maintenance and tracking reports
- Identify recurring root cause issues and provide solutions to drive safety and efficiency.
- Develop/revise driver screening to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations. All new drivers meet or exceed company standards.
- Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline associates
- Ensure the quality and thoroughness of background investigations of previous employers, driver interviews, driver medical examinations, and driver road tests.
- Contribute operation information and recommendations for strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans. Implement production, productivity, quality, and customer service standards
- Resolve problems, complete audits, and identify trends

Travel:
Occasional travel for further education, seminars, etc. And to our other locations of the company
